View Full Version : What is the highest fsb that the i975 can do with added voltage for 24/7 use?

With conroe having single-digit multipliers, i'm worried that the cheap cpus will be limited by the fsb. I've also noticed that the yonahs are hitting 3ghz pretty easily but the conroe results we've seen are significantly lower, possibly due to fsb.

I'm just wondering what fsb those of you with low multiplier cpus and i975 boards run at for daily use/

Seeing as only a handful of people have Conroe it is hard to tell. Besides Conroe, the lowest i975 motherboard multiplier would be 14x (if i recall correctly). So it might be a while before we get a real answer.

Keep in mind the max FSB for 955/975 was 450, will we reach that? who knows. I don't recall whether or not Fugger had any extreme cooling on the chipset, i know HarleyBro just had the copper swiftech hsf (again if i recall correctly).

Lowest supported multiplier on bad axe is 5.

thunderstruck!

It really doesn't matter what kind of fsb boards today can reach because none of them can support conroe. It'll be time to worry when you get your new cpu, but for now, nothing you can do.

Asus P5WD2-E Premium should do ~380MHz FSB 24/7 with 4 sticks of ram with no problem. Not sure other 975X are capable of the same, but 380MHz FSB is fine.
Then a Conroe can be clocked 40-45% before the FSB is the limiting factor wich should be enough for air- and watercooled users unless one of the Conroes are going to be the new Northwood 1.6A.
I would'nt expect the 2,4GHz model to overclock more than 45% out of the box and it seems people are aiming for that one because of the 4MB cache.

Right now the P5WD2's are pretty outstanding so the question is if the new 975X (and 965) motherboards will mature and have same overclocking capabilities.

Even when the new boards come it should be the same chipset (memorycontroller) as before and therefor same capabilities.
