Never used dual core before so I'd like to know if there's anything I need to enable, I checked out the X2 Dual core thread, but it seems like thats more for people who use C&C then anything else.

What I'm concered with is whether or not my Opteron is running at full potential. I'm using XP pro SP2 and it shows up as multi processor cpu and I can see both cores in hardware monitor.

But it still feels slow to me.

I've defragged, installed all my drivers for hardware. I'm still using the stock bios on my DFI AD0.

my specs right now;

Opteron 170 (220x10)
DFI NF4 Ultra D
2gb GSKILL HZ (the black heatspreader ones)
OCZ 600W powerstream
74gb raptor
audigy 2 zs
x1900 xtx

It's 7 am now and I'm still really drowsy so if I missed anything sorry ahead of time, thanks for the help.

And yes I used the search function last night but I couldn't find any threads that helped me, at least not at first glance.

bench it with pcmark or something and see the comparable results

Have you tried running superpi simultaniously on both cores (create 2 folders each containing spi and make 2 shortcuts) to see if score is ok for clocks?

did you install the amd dual core drivers? did u check the bios if all the settings are correct? and yeh run superpi etc if you're getting diff times than other ppl with this cpu at stock than something is up otherwise youre gonna have to oc this thing till its as xtreme as you want it to be

Thanks for the responses appreciate it;

I downloaded and installed this driver: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9033,00.html

Is that the dual core driver you guys are talking about? That fixed my CS:S being slow.

About super pi, I have it installed (1) but if I'm understanding right i just extract it twice and make 2 folders for it and run it simultaneously?

I'll try that now, also my BIOS is 6/23/05 which is the stock it came with.

I'll post after I get the times for Super pi.

Thanks

Edit: at 250x10 3-4-4-8 I get 35s running Super Pi (2 instances simultaneously).
Is that average? Really below average?

Also how do I run two instances of prime 95? Thanks.

One more question, what's the difference between CPU Vid Control and CPU Control or whatever the the two CPU voltage options in bios are?
Right now I'm setting the voltage in the second one, while the first one stays at "start up". Is that ok?

Bump got 270x10 stable took 1.55v though, after reading the Opteron OC thread with my stepping I guess that's what's expected. Only things I want to know really now is how to run 2 instances of Prime95 and what the difference is in the CPU Startup option and CPU Vid Control Option is?

Thanks.

install prime95 but create 2 shortcuts for it...

I made one shortcut Core0 - prime95 and the other core1 -prime95
if you open the properties of the shortcut make sure the path to the executable is listed and functional. Then follow it up with -a0 (core 0) or -a1 (core 1) (ex. ....\Prime95.exe" -a0) that way when you run the shortcut it automatically sets the affinity to each core with out too much mess... think you can use a1 and a2 as well, but a0 and a1 seemed fitting.

Works for me with out a problem give it a try.

Seeying both my 3000's @ 2600mhz do about 33s (ram @ 236mhz 2.5-3-3-6) i guess that SuperPI score aint anything to worry about, they might be a little bit slow but some tweaking might solve that ;)

What option do you guys use to set the CPU voltage? CPU Startup or CPU VID Control?

VID for volts upto 1.55, VID Special for odd voltages that can't be selected with the VID option, or anything higher than 1.55. Not sure what the purpose of VID Startup is, but I think it puts a higher voltage through the CPU during POST, but somebody feel free to correct me on that.

cool, thanks I'm just gonna leave it at 265x10 @ 1.475, nearly 1v for 50mhz stable isn't worth it for me.

Thanks for all the help again guys.
