I'm considering switching from the MSI K8N Diamond Plus to a SLi-DR. But what is the difference between the "LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR" and the "LP UT nF4 SLI-DR".
The LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR got great reviews, and the LP UT nF4 SLI-DR go OK reviews. They look like the same board to me.
I guess another option would be the LP UT nF4 SLI-D. The only difference I see here is this one doesn't have 4 SATA 1.5Gbps ports.
So what are your recommendations, or should I just stick with the MSI.

just curious, what is wrong with your diamond plus? I don't like mine because the chipset is really hot 67c.

yeah - the board you are thinking about has a smaller gap between the pci-e slots, so if you're running SLI get ready for more video card heat, and chipset heat.. the diamond plus is supposed to be a very good board.. but if you must jump ship, I suggest looking at the DFI SLI-DR "expert" board.. while it got a lot of flack early after it's initial release, the later boards seem very solid. I really like mine. anyways.. good luck with your search for a new mobo.

well, yea i didn't like my chipset getting so hot, but i feel it just isn't as well suited to overclock as the dfi boards. its geared more towards features than performance.
my chipset was running mid 50's, i turned off the smart fan and had the NB fan run at 5000 rpm all the time, and it runs mid 30's now.

I might return this mobo, and get a DFI expert. I like the layout of that board. I just hope my seasonic will work togther with it. BTW, going to the expert will not allow me to get a higher oc right? My cpu cannot seem to go above 2.75ghz. Even at 2.75ghz it needs 1.5v. Will it be any different on the Expert?

i'm just getting really poor performance from my opty 165, i refuse to believe its the chip. i feel the motherboard and ram are holding it back. i can take the ram out of the picture with loose timings and dividers though.
i have a new thermaltake 5000 rpm 50cfm fan coming on friday, and i'll reseat the heatsink with as5, and make sure i get a good mount. if i can't get 2700 @ 1.45 with 3x ldt multi or higher, i'm going to try a DFI board.

i believe going with a proven good overclocking board will increase your chances of getting a better overclock than with the current diamond plus. that is primarily why i want one of the sli-dr's

Why not try your CPU in another Mobo, OR wait for a better BIOS release to come out for the board (there is a beta version out, taht fixes a LOT of issues... ask around for it.) instead of wasting your money.
Just an idea,

well, i wouldn't really be wasting my money. i'm going to build another workstation anyway. i'll probably build this one piece by piece though. so i figured i might as well buy the motherboard first since i feel this msi board might be suspect. i'm not saying its a poor performer, but its no extreme overclocker. which, i made the mistake of buying it for the 16x 16x sli. which i will probably use in the future.

I'll try to find the 3.0a BETA bios for you. It drastically improves RAM and CPU overclockability
Nick
EDIT: Having bad luck finding it, does anyone have it?

well, i updated the bios, with no better OC results. but i noticed something strange in the new bios. they added a mem divider of 5/4, so at a stock fsb, the ram would run 250mhz. run the cpu stock and ddr500 stock? is that the reasoning maybe? i've never seen a divider with mem on teh high side before.
