Just wondering after the discussion of the day (nn_step posting almost 28 times a day, 90% of those posts are totally useless and/or have nothing to add).

I saw a lot of his posts (something like 25%) are just one word or sometimes even only a smiley. On mosts forums out there nn_step would have gotten a no-post ban or worse a long time ago, but here nothing is done. Also on almost all forums you need something like 20 characters before posting to prevent such short useless posts. Why isn't this available here?

Also the forum isn't free to run and we have seen a lot of downtime, a lot of short posts don't really help with that.

The minimum required number is 3 characters per post. Just to answer your Q Thorry

Ah well, so why not increase this to say 20. This will require people to explain what they are saying so the quality of the forum is increased and the number of useless posts is decreased.

Can't see how this isn't a good thing to do?

What are you suppoesed to say when someone gets a new WR OC?? Most would just be like "Great job". 20 is a little high. BTW, nn_step is a huge help at this forums and I'm sure if he was spamming they would have banned him/pm'ed him.

For the most part nn_step is completely useless but he has his moments. ;)

Offcourse but the question really is: Would you want people to say "Great job" when a new WR is set. Offcourse people want the fame and credits but often I see topics with 40 pages of people saying stuff like "Wow" and "Great" or "Amazing" and a some actually interesting remarks, questions etc.

If someone is forced to enter more characters they may refrain from posting "Wow" for the 100th time or maybe think of some good question to ask. Also when paying a complement you can be more specific or more detailed which isn't a bad thing.

And with almost 30 posts a day nobodies helpfull all of the time. If he were to reduce quantity and improve quality that would be better for a lot of people. There are many many users on this forum who read everything but only post sometimes when there is really something usefull to add. You see a lot of users with many a registerdate many years ago but something like 500 posts, that's pretty healthy in my eyes.

nn_step is good in my book(only cause he's from/in MI :p).

If the min was 20 char's then alot of posts would be like "great job!20charminbs" anyway.

We have the 10 char at OCAU.
Doesn't REALLY work unless you have alot of mods. Cos people just go

i'm with thorry, a minimum limit of 10 - 20 characters would be much better, and if someone does what Xassius said then i think its vacation time ;)

If you take notice of it for a couple of weeks, post a forum wide sticky about it, maybe give a couple of temp-bans here and there people will learn.

But it's just a suggestion, simple yes or no will suffice. It's just the only (big) forum I know that doesn't have at least a 10 or 15 char limit (altough 20 or more would be better).
