F.E.A.R runs fine until restart?

Hey, I'm having trouble getting fear to run on my mates system. It runs great the first time we run it then wen we exit the game and come back into it it runs like crap the system is

3700+ @ 2.6ghz (939)
Asus SLi
7900GT
Hiper 580w
X-Fi Xtreme Music
2gb of Gskill HZ

I dont understand it its done it on 3 installs of Windows XP and X64 and numerous reinstalls and numerous recent beta and whql drivers. The game is patched to latest version.

just windows programs, i made it the first thing i installed after format excluding drivers. Im not at his house now so I wouldnt be able to get a SS. Its just strange because it runs awesome until we save it quit then come back into the game then it just dies it drops the settings down to 800x600 and lowest and puts computer sepc to minimum and same with graphics. I installed it on mine too the same copy but it ran fine. Btw i have also tried 2 graphics cards a 6800XT and a 7900GT both at stock and clocked.
