I want to do something with my old lian-li pc60 case. It's not being used. I'm getting a new pc. And I want a project for when I am on vacation from work and have nothing else to do. I'm looking for people's opinions on what should be done differently. Like a better way to do things, or an easier way. I know it might not be the best case when it comes to keeping it cool, this is something I want to do.
I took my old idea of a wood case. It would have been a desktop case and it would have been too big for the desk. So I gave up on it.
Now I want to take my old pc60 case and cover it with wood, stain it, add a glass window, and make it look different than other cases.
I stripped the case as much as possible, leaving enough of the frame so it won't collapse. That's what I will use as the frame of the new case.
What I have planned:
Outside will be almost all wood.
-right side: solid wood door with hinges in front
-left side: wood door with glass panel with hinges in front
-back: no changes
-top: wood with one or two 80mm fans.
-front: wood covers for original 5" drive bays, except for dvd drive;
solid wood door on new front panel covering 5" drive bays;
3" drive bays will be eliminated;
power and reset button moved and redesigned;
2 80mm fans moved up away from bottom of case;
audigy drive taken apart and case's front panel will be cut out to fit connections for the audigy drive (in other words, no cheap plastic cover for the aud drive. will have aud drive's card attached directly to wood case's front panel.)
-bottom: all wood base.
Inside of case will be aluminum except for bottom which will be wood.
-bottom: wood elevated off the bottom of the case. slots in the middle and the front from left to right for cable from audigy drive to audigy card, power button cable, reset cable and possibly usb port cable. Cables will run under the wood so they will be hidden.
The rest of the inside, I don't know. Here is where I need your advice. Should I cover the rest with wood to match the rest of the case? Maybe paint it a color to match the stained wood? Or should I leave it aluminum? And if I leave it, what's the best thing to use to polish the aluminum. There are a few scratches that I would like to get rid of.
Pictures will be here when I get started on building it. I have to draw everything up and figure out how everything will be attached to the frame.
The specs for the pc going into the case would be a a64 3400, x800xt, msi motherboard (I forgot the model), 1 gig of ram, dvdrw, 80gig sata hdd, audigy 2 zs platinum.
