wow, a overclocked next gen chip can beat a stock current gen chip. amazing:rolleyes:

ANY real world app or 3d bench and the FX would stomp all over a celeron M :stick:

Great, if you get your jollies by running SuperPI 1M all day, then the new Celeron M will be perfect for you. Surprisingly, I prefer to play games and run useful applications so I'll be sticking with my 144

Hell superpi is a terrible way to measure real life performance.
You could actually create a x86 CPU with a FPGA that runs like a Pentium 60 in real-life performance but that runs superpi 1M in 15 secs stock.

i think it is normal an overclocked next gen chip beat stock current gen chip :)

I don't understand why you guys aren't impressed with a cheapo 1.6 Ghz CPU doing 3 Ghz on air.
It's not supposed to compete with the FX60, that's why it costs 1/10 as much :D

Because any 165/170 with a half ass stepping would f'ing own that in 3d or real world applications.

People seem surprised...
Super-Pi has never been A64's spot, it's always belonged to intel for the most part. Why would this be any different?
I think the performace between a fx60 v celeron would be close in gaming.
Stop thinking it is just a celeron... Its more of a Dothan a little cut down.

Why are you comparing a Celeron to an 300-400 dollar Opterons?
Opteron 170s are sweet, but they don't take away from the sweetness of a 1400 Mhz OC on air. You guys just don't like Intel :p:

 Once again Intel is showing they know how to count fast. now let us see something remotely useful like does it game.

bottom end chips have always been the most overclockable.
you want a valid comparison? Get a 3000+ and find the max OC. You should meet the FX60 performance (single thread) at a competitive price for this Celeron.

most 3000+ venice chips top out at 2.5-2.7 but a dothan @ 2.7 canes them in almost everything
The celeron is pretty much a modified dothan, and at 3 ghz, it will spank pretty much any o/ced venice
well i dont care what you guys say, i'm quite impressed, intel sure have pulled their finger out this time right accross the board, well done them

Nobody is impressed because Yonah simply is the next level of development of Dothan which is the next level of development from the old Dothan which is the next level of development from the Banias.
Because things like performance and overclock abilities have been scaling in a linear way whilst the core design and features have remained the same...

Lets see some 3D, not PI.

You guys know whats funny. If this Celeron beat the FX60 in gaming you would all be saying what about SP1M!!
You may argue whatever you want, but in the back of your minds you know its true.
And a celeron anything doing good in Pi is shocking in a good way. Historically celerons had crippled FPU units. For instance, I worked on a Celeron 2ghz (478 package) system that took 70 seconds to complete Super Pi 1M, and that was after optimizing the OS.

I have to agree with maxxxracer.
We may have to wait to see 3d but we all know that dothans are good in 3d.
Even if fx-60 "wins" the gap shouldn´t justify the extra 900U$S
And c´mon guys... thats a buget chip pwning a high end one.
Im not surprised, im happy.:)

Yeah those were the old Celerons, they haven't been as slow for a while now. I know all the 775 Celerons are just good CPUs.
Also the Pentium-M based Celerons have been fast as hell. The Banias Cellies were pretty fast but not super fast. The Dothan Cellies are fast as hell, I have one in my MCE and it runs very fast indeed (especially with a big overclock).
As I said these Celeron-Ms are simple Yonahs with lesser bandwidth (which is overcome by overclocking) and a bit less cache (which isn't a big hit in most applications). Yonahs are the next iteration of the Dothan 533, which is the next iteration of the Dothan 400 which is the next iteration of the Banias.
It's just not that shocking really....
