I'm curious, has the X1800XL ever been Vmodded? I'm getting one this week and want to vmod it,maybe I can achieve XT speeds and up with this.

If you have info please let me know :).

You don't need to Vmod it...just use ATI tool and up the voltage to the core and mem...its built into the card/tool :)

whoa its THATS easy? haha thanks :)
I wonder how far that GPU can go on water,do you know the safest voltages? air/water?

Thanks again.

Mine made 640mhz with 1.15v on water. Sadly, it couldn't take more than 1.15v, for some reason or other (first gen r520 core, i guess), otherwise it would probably have been a beasty.

sweet! I'm really anxious to get this baby now.I'm currently on an X300SE so this will be a HUGE leap for me.

How far have you gotten your mem?

i had 2 x1800xl's... both were unstable in some games even at stock.... one of them did bench at like 620/1440 or so

What brand were they? I'm looking to get a Saphire.

baracus2k
04-15-2006, 09:02 AM
both were sapphire... keep in mind the new ones use 2.0ns ram instead of 1.4ns as mine did

Negative Design
04-15-2006, 09:07 AM
wow...thats bad news....I was gonna get the refurb ones from newegg they are 250$ no wonder they're so cheap...but thats all I can afford now.

baracus2k
04-15-2006, 09:13 AM
just wait till u can afford $50 more and grab a 7900GT... or for $285 grab a 256mb x1800xt sapphire... but its really worth it to add $35 on top of that and get the 512mb version... refurb x1800xl for $250 is a ripoff compared to those cards

don_vercetti
04-15-2006, 09:15 AM
It had 1.4ns RAM, and iirc it reached about 680mhz with 1.95v. With more volts should have flown.

I don't have it anymore, sold for this funky x1800xt.

Negative Design
04-15-2006, 09:25 AM
sweet, got links to those sales?
I'm tryin to sell my gear so that I can afford that XT now...didn't even know they made a 256MB version lol...I've read alot about these cards dying all over the place....I was gonna take a risk, not a smart move.

Thanks guys.

All on Air (Zalman VF700). Voltages were:

VGPU: 1.35v
Vmem: 2.2v
VDDQ: 1.8v-1.9v

My card was capable of 654MHz/693MHz 24/7. Thats slightly better than a stock x1800XT, but its lacking the extra 256MB and the 1.2ns RAM. Mine had 1.4ns.

All done with ATITool. Should use the latest version BTW.

My top so far is 810/900. Gives a smooth 11,446.

That was with no ramsinks also. And a 2.9ghz X2 3800.

So the only major difference is RAM right? that 1.1 ns ram flies.
Holy crap dude I never seen a card do 800 before are you on ice?(vapo) and how does it do 900 on air? amazing.Do you have pics and benches?

don_vercetti
04-15-2006, 12:55 PM
No...just water. I'm sure many have beaten it.

benches...

i'll grab some ORB links, hang on. It's nothing special really, people have gotten the core up past 900mhz, i think. And the Ram is 1.2ns or 1.4ns for XT (1.2ns i THINK).

Those are the only decent ones. No pics or anything. It's just a Maze 4 in a loop with a CPU, cooled by a 120.3 rad.

I've been out of the loop with these things sorry if I sound like a noob. Thanks for the links.

What are your 24/7 speeds?

don_vercetti

Just stock, at the moment. Not really tried for 24/7 speeds much, just benching.

Oh ok,well my mind is set right now...X1800XT here I come.

And by the time R600 drops I'll have enough $$ to upgrade.

Thanks again for the advice guys.

No, the 1900 is 16x3. You can't match 1900 performance as it's completely diff. than the 1800

Yea...I see now, those 48 pipes aren't just for marketting afterall lol.I wish ATi had a stepup program I can probably get an X1900 in a few months but I don't feel like selling this and paying more in the end.

X1800XT should last me years anyways.

Are you using the stock memory pads for that? With the stock cooler my mem can't even do 790mhz, and even with a nice cold fan over them and 5c ambients can do 900mhz or so.

It's 3 Pixel Shaders per pipeline.

Yup, everything stock, not even removed the stock cooler yet :) I assume the ram is 1.1ns

So you haven't even changed the stock thermal paste?

Where do you live, antarctica? Cos those are mighty low temps you've got there.

Alright! I got the X1800 in and it sweet! I haven't Oc'd it yet but will soon,I did some quick benchmarks at stock vs my X300SE card....

Can you tell which is wich?lol

Also, I noticed that the core is underclocked but the mem is overclocked also overvolted..not sure if these reading are correct, overdrive gives same reading for core.

I have a x1800XL and Ive managed to clock it to 640/600 with 68c/36-38 as max temp under load . The core was pretty easy to clock and I could instantly put it at 640mhz with 1.2v witouth any problems (I could probably clock it higher but I dont wanna do that with the stock cooler) . But the memory was pretty tricky since it wouldnt be artifact free at 600mhz until I put 2.2v on it which is quite weird as Ive seen that other have reached 680mhz with 1.9v . Im using ati tool btw
