View Full Version : Mounting a thermochill PA 120.2 into an Antec P180

After doing some researching and careful thinking, I've decided to mount my thermochill pa 120.2 onto an antec p180.

So what the plan is, is to drill another 120mm hole (or 4.5 inches) into the top next to the already 120mm hole that is present.

Then I'm planning on drilling two 5/8" or 3/4" holes for the inlet and outlet ports of the radiator.

So the radiator will sit flush against the top with the inlet and outlet ports pointing downwards into the case.

My question is... should I mount the fans on top of the radiator and have them pushing air into the case... or have them pulling air out of the case?

OR

Should I mount the fans on the opposite side of the radiator inside the case and have the fans blowing air out or pulling air in? If I do this, I'll drill 4 tiny holes for each of the fans or a total of 8.

I realize if I keep the fans on the outside, I'll probably need fan grills to prevent myself from cutting off my finger from one of the blades on the 120mm fan :)

if you have good airflow in your case then id mount the fans pulling air into the case. if you dont have good airflow in your case then mounting it as an exhaust pushing air out of the case would be better. you wont notice a significant difference in the temps of your loop if you do this. might also want to consider getting a waterblock for your card.

but how should i set up the air going out...

i can set the fans to pull air out or push the air out

which is better?

if you set it up as a case exhaust it would be better pulling air out, however, since youre only going to be cutting out two 120mm holes in your case then i would recommend pushing the air out.

I'm not sure how all this is going to work out but I certainly want to see it when your finished.
