View Full Version : Any way to change the Overdrive Limits of the CCC?

the Overdrive limits of the Catalyst Control Center, are too low.
they top out at only 690/800 which for my card is almost nothing.

I'd like to be able to OC this thing farther for daily game use, cause my card has so much more in it.
I hate this whole "disable ATI2EVXX.EXE" Increase your voltage... set 2d settings crap...

I just want a card that I can OC, and have it work like normal.
no weird "disable 20 thing" and run the card in 2D mode stuff, cause thats not really usable for daily use...

I am hoping someone knows a way to increase the limits in the CCC by modding the limits some where...

Have you tried Rabit 2.0a and looked to see what if anything changed in Overdrive clocks? RaBit doesn't appear to effect the cards default 2D clocks so maybe it works on the 3D clocks only which would be used in Overdrive.

Also if you disable the ATI Service(s) (some have only HotKey Poller with X1900 while others have both HotKey Poller and ATI Smart), you do not need to disable the *.exe's on every boot. Then you can simply use a Profile in ATI Tool that loads on startup.

Maybe a bit late but didn't see this on its day. Probably you've sorted this already but anyway I'll try to help:

Start -> Run -> msconfig

Get to Services tab and disable both ATI services to be sure

Then open ATI Tool, it won't complain anymore.

Then you make a new profile named "3D" or whatever you like, OC the card following the usual way. Set voltages and fan speeds (and save them to the 3D profile). Then on settings -> 3D detection enable 3D and Default when back to desktop. Also set it to open at startup. Can't tell you the exact options because I've sent my XT in exchange for a XTX and now I'm with a 7800GT.

Don't mess with Rabit, it's still buggy on my xtx it doesn't even recognize it properly. Those changes are realtime anyway...

Dig through the registry....I've always thought those numbers weren't hard coded and still do. :)

I did that way back when on X1800 XL Vapor, nothing there.

Good tip! Didn't want to run the card in 3D mode all the time and this is perfect.

Yes that way works the same as with the ATI services. Better indeed because you can tune the fans and get Default to lower clocks -> save it to "2D mode". Then set the fans even lower (I set them at 0% behind 47c and it's stopped if I don't play DivX/DVD or hard net surfing :D)

Yup, I'm loving this way even better than Nvidia's. I keep forgetting to turn the voltages up for max core testing though, and it always BSOD's at 598MHz :slapass: with 1.175v.

Is there a safe limit for low 2D clocks though? Now I'm running at 400/1000 and I'm wondering if it's safe to turn it down to say 350/800 to get lower voltages.. it idles way hot! 38C on water

I had a hard time trying to find the max clocks so I didn't bother much in finding the lowest volts/clocks. But I've never read of a dead chip/mem because of undervolting :D
