Yay! Well.. i know this is old sh*t... but as i can't afford a new system by now, I just bought a new set of RAM:

2x512MB Geil UltraX, Double-Sided, UTT BH-5
SPD: 2-2-2-5, 2.5v

I installed it, and was runing ok on stock speeds. You know.. new parts, stocks speeds, just for testing. Started memtest'ing them, when I got a sudden freeze...

WTF... started relaxing timings, trying to trace the problem... even at 3-4-4-11 they would freeze suddenly, even at BIOS screen sometimes...

I was about to send them back, when a friend of mine told me to test on a NF3 250GB based system. The modules were ok.

I this some incompatility with my system?

Has any of you guys ever had 2x512mb double-sided UTT/BH/CH on a nforce2 working properly?

Thx in advance!

EDIT: Runing 2t also won't help... and I never got it to boot back at latencies higher than 2.5-4-4-11... only lower!

How much voltage did you give them? Try 2.7 or 2.8...it should help.

NF2 has never been extremely friendly to UTT, Classic BH runs better.

It will depend a lot on your board as well, some do better than others.

Thx on the fast reply!

Crrently using a DFI LANParty NFII Ultra Rev.A using Hellfire's LPB BIOS.

Already tried 2.9v and no improvements...

The strange thing is that the previous owner managed to achieve 240MHz at default timings @ 3.2v 1t DC, on an 8RDA+.

BH5?... 2.7? 2.8? 2.9? I can barely get it to wake up. Try 3.2-3.4V min.

So this RAM isn't able to run @ SPD ? (2.5v, 400MHz, 2-2-2-5)

It should.

Have you run 2x512 on your board before? Quite a few nF2 boards just flat out suck at 2x512/2x1gb configurations.

Also if you havent noticed already, 90% of BH/CH will not do CAS3.

If so, you may need to upgrade your mobo. :stick:

Come to think of it, single sided bh5 worked better with the nf2 chipset.

So this RAM isn't able to run @ SPD ? (2.5v, 400MHz, 2-2-2-5)

CPC: Diabled will fix the problem and if not that will do it lower the memmory clocks to 190mhz.

If you need any more info or have some another trouble give me a pm.

Rev.A with LP B bios? Or is the B not for it's revision? NF2 was along time ago.:stick:

Ehehe reel long time!

So.. that's Rev.A board runing a Rev.B BIOS... the only different things on these are the S-ATA/ RAID controllers... I use the Rev.B BIOS so i can adjust all those timings

Lastviking
You are the man! ehehhe I reviewed some topics about nf2 and.. wow... impressive results you've got!I'll try those settings as soons as i get home... so no overclocking at all with those?

ZhaoYun
For sure but... i think it's easier to find a green elephant than single-sided BH-5 sticks... or am I mistaken? "OMG! is this a green elephant??" lol

And no way I can run them on the same settings i did on the nf3... =/

STEvil
Actually I did, but they were Corsair ValueSelect sticks... and they would perform the same if using 1 or 2 sticks DC...

uwackme
as soon as I get my vdimm up, i'll surelly try!

Thx guys on all the help you're providing me!!

overclocking work but what i remember do the 220mhz-> dont work 24/7 with 2x512mb cpc:disabled

That's a shame... well.. is there any chance of finding 2x512MB single-sided Bh-5?

Are the "Geil One BH" real BH-5, or just more UTT sh*t?

I think its UTT . Nope no chance to find single-sided bh5

Yay! Found some 2x512MB PC3000 Kigston HyperX, with winbond chips, but the owner hadn't take the spreaders off, so it can be either BH-5,BH-6 or CH-5.... there's only a few hours until the bidding end!

Should I buy them??

They will not give you any more speed on that board but yes old stuff is fun :) how much? <-100$ good price

ATM i posted yes, it was like 70USD :D

But now someone bidded as high as 150US :(

What would be a good set of 2x512mb then?

My bad.. confirmed now, it was an 8HDA...

Just my two cents..

On my NF7, my 2x512mb Geils BH-5 won't do 2-2-2-11 at any speeds with 2.9v. However, i did he 3.3v sense mod, and they now get 3.3v, and they are able to clock to up 240mhz with tightest timings, pi stable.

So maybe a bit more vdimm would help? Surely the LP can go up to 3.1v or so?

LP is going over 3.3v-> taking vdimm from +5v

Pi stable is one thing 24/7 is another thing.

(1) But he is currently running 2.9v, and i was pointing out, that may just not be enough voltage to make bh5 run properly. It doesn't matter if he gets the 2.9v from the 3.3v or the 5v rail, it still might not be enough.

(2) Pi32m, SP2004 to infinity, games etc, dunno what you define as 24/7 but that is good enough for me.

Point is, one needs higher voltage on the NF2 than say the nf3 or nf4 to make it run stabley, when it comes to bh5.

hmmm I see...

Well ,on thursday on going to get my motherboard modded (vdrop, vdimm), so we'll se if this solves the problem... i'm aiming for 3.5~3.6v vdimm.. is that too high?

ZhaoYun

Aim for 3.3-3.4v for everyday use and don't forget to actively cool the ram. :explode2:

Any advise on what would be the best 2x512 set for nf2?

The problem will not be going away with higher vdimm trust me...

Sure not? Because i'll be using some lucky 2x256MB Bh-5 that will do 279 1,5-2-2-0 tonight, but they need 3.6v to do that... and waht voltage did u used on your 297MHz nf2 WR ? Wasn't it about 3.68v?

The board will not go so high without right cooling :)

You mean.. the chipset or the ram modules?
