View Full Version : What's the worst that I can expect from a CAB2E 148?

I'm being offered an Opteron 148 for $160, and the seller says the stepping is CAB2E. I asked the full stepping but he hasn't respond. (It's only been a few hours so he might not have read my message, or he's just ignoring my question, I don't know)

I mean, it's still a 148, right? Assuming he's guarranteeing against DOA, what's the worst scenario that could happen? Anyone?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Huh? I guess the worst you can expect is a nonworking one. Don't aim too high with that stepping. Also, not posting a week code is suspicious.

The absolute WORST you should expect is 2.2Ghz on your 148.. if it is anything less.. you have EVERY SINGLE right in the world to demand a new Chip..
Stock is the only thing promised in the world

i just sold a cab2e 0545 cpaw which did 2.8 @ 1.45v, 2.9 @ 1.5v, and 3.0 @ 1.6v to give you an idea. $160 seems very cheap though.

Um... Well, no one buys an Opteron to run it @stock.. Well but that still can be considered "worst".. But seriously, other than DOA and stock speed, what else can happen?

CAB2Es are decent, IMO. I have a 146 CAB2E 0546GPAW does 3.0GHz stable on air. I'm still waiting for his reply. Maybe by tomorrow morning he'll respond. More opinion please. Thanks a bunch!

outside of that.. all we can give you is a range..
From Stock to 4Ghz.. There is absolutely no way to predict exactly what that chip can do until you try it

i had a CAB2E 0547GPMW 148 that did 3.1 Ghz with 1.5v on water :)

I think, assuming it in fine working condition, 2.8 GHz is a minimum. Anything below that would be a very pathetic max...

I agree with Absolute_0's assessment. I see it as 2.8GHz average for single-cores, and 2.6GHz for dual-cores. My reasoning is that those frequencies are under AMD's current production level (at least officially). AMD has a 'definite' ability to produce 2.6GHz dual-cores (FX-60) and 2.8GHz single-cores (FX-57).

However, my dilemma is whether there would be something wrong with this chip, not how high it'd go.. :(

Dont trust it, dont buy it!

Having the right for demanding a new chip is a whole lot different then getting that right.

Coldbugged is what you can expect. If you're not running a chiller or phase then there isn't much of an issue here. Other than that I haven't heard anything else about CAB2E's specifically.

Update: He says it's 0545MPMW and he's been running it @2.8GHz. I think that's a reasonable number so I bought it. X11 multi for $160 isn't too bad, I guess.
