I just got a few ES CPU's in the mail. I have 2 PD920 ES CPU's, and both read as 1.8ghz with a FSB of 133 on my P5WD2 E Premium SEE HERE (http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=83958&PHPSESSID=a3f4d83a291c3f00efe87d4e05667183). Now when I tested the first one I thought maybe it was the chip, but the second 1 I have does the same thing, also both read at a temp of 75C+ and that has to be a read error because neither of the CPU's throttle under dual prime 95's. So I was thinking maybe my board needs to be updated?? I got it in January, and havent changed a thing except CPU's. Does anyone think this will cure the problem?

Also I have a couple other CPU's that I havent been able to use, not sure if they are toast or not but 1 wont boot at all, when you hit the power you can see the HDD light flicker on then go off, and the PC doesnt boot?? Maybe a driver issue to or does this sound like a toasted CPU, I dont see any burns, chips or cracks so I dont know. The other CPU will boot to the ASUS screen but wont go past that it just sits there until I turn the PC off and its an instant off.

Any help would be great, Id like to at least get the 920's to actualy read right if possible. :)

I am not sure why you are even asking. Updating a bios on an ASUS board takes less time than typing that post :stick: :p

flash the bios, then see if you still have the problems. i know my 920 wouldnt even post without a bios flash when i had it. i had to buy a celeron then return it in order to flash.

:cussing: Well first of all I asked for some help, I didnt ask for a finger in the eye:nono: Second of all I asked because I dont have a Floppy drive on hand, so before I actualy picked 1 up I wanted a few opinions on the question at hand. Third Ive never flashed a bios so before I do this I wanted a few opinions(as stated above)

Its odd, but both my 820 ES and 830 ES have no problems, niether does my P4 EE 3.73 ES. The 920's both have Code errors when booting but the others do not. Im going to pick up a drive and some floppy's. I guess if worse comes to worse, I can just use my P5WD2 P. :D

i think the 8 series were ok to run on the non e premiums. i think it was the 9xx that needed the flash with the 1.01 revision. the 1.02 revision has the 0301 bios now which is the latest and works with all current cpu's

Ok well after about 4 hours of trying to flash my E premium, Ive had no luck. I fallowed the manual to the T(which is pretty lame for the first timer) so I got the original version saved to disk, but when I try to load the 0401 version, I either get an error that the file cannot be foud on the disk, or that the program can not open the file. Ive tried to do it a few differnt ways and nothing has worked. Im pretty much stuck at this point and can not for the life of me figure out what the damn problem is with the new file, Ive downloaded it 3 times and loaded it on 3 different disk's in 3 different ways. Can someone give me a run down on exactly(step by step) how to make the updated disk??

Ok got it flashed, had to use the easy flash, man that was easy, I dont know what the problem was with the AFUDOS method, but it only took a couple minutes to flash the bios to 0401. So far so good, Ill plop in a 920 in the morning and see what happens. At this point Im thinking that the 920's I have are the first batch, and Im thinking that they were going to use them with a 533bus speed instead of an 800mhz bus speed. But obviously they changed their minds. :D
