Just wondered how much people forkout when they first start up i spent loads. Its strange you kinda get hooked buy everythin build it and realise ur skint. anyone sold there car to build a unit or anythin strange like that?
£300-£400 at a guess,
but i was lucky as i had virtually all the tools at home already.

My cost will be in the regions of around £300-400 also as I knew someone with most of the tools needed to get my little venture off the ground :)
My biggest expense so far has been the 2 rotaries and controller. Going to buy myself a vac pump and a new 4 way manifold soon though so that will be an expense.

I've only spent around $50-$75 on my project, I'm ready to start my SS once I get a copper block and mill it. Copper is gonna cost a bit but I found some great deals on ebay, manifold for $22, 10 boxes of cap tube for $20, all the phase change parts I got for free though, four window AC units from freecycle, and some parts from a dehumidifier for free from a local appliance repair place.

I agree there are places that are more expensive but the UK has to pretty much import nearly all the stuff lol. It works out cheaper to get ppl in other countries to buy it for u and send it over.

Way to go    If your not lazy you can find stuff like mario did.:toast:
Then all you need is a few fittings & some copper tube & refrigerant.
for tools ; a torch, rods, tube cutter and a manifold/with hoses. A vacuum pump and nitrogen tank for purging is the most expensive.
have a keg party and after use the co2 tank for purging, lol
I keep saying this the inside of a refrigeration system has to be clean room clean....
a flaring tool isn't really needed.
good job at recycling,:woot: most refrigeration units develop a leak and are discarded. espscially window a/c unit and fridges.

Hehe.... too much to post really... I know I got decent tax return last year thanks to huge amount of upfront investment.
yeah costed me 1000+, bought some expensive tools. but i had allready bought some stuff for school.
I can't work with crappy tools, and a vacuumpump is the most expensive of the whole deal.

$1000cdn for me. Including all tools and $400cdn vacuum pump. Also includes the GFroster Xe and professionaly made acrylic case.
So far for my first SS unit i've spent AU$220. I'm still yet to buy manifold, drier, copper tubing, T-joins, etc.
Didn't expect to spend too much, but over water, will so be worth it :)

I'm HOPING to spend $300 on the OCZ unit if/when it comes out for my first venture into xtreme cooling. A relatively cheap, nice looking, efficient, warrentied unit would be a great starter IMO. With any luck, and finances providing, It can cool my conroe rig that i hope to build sometime this fall. Course, that trip to vegas with all my friends for our 21st Bdays is gonna cut into my poor college kid funds... Maybe ill stop and see chilly1 while im there instead however.......

Thank fully due to growing up in heavy industry I have some very helpfull friends with access to toyze :D So they got me a good deal of odd ball parts n what have you, spent about $500cad thuse fare on random parts n tools (Again, after 4Gs worth of my stufe was stollen, kinda starting over again, all tools, computers, and well thats all I realy own) The rest just hung out at the local recyclers.
Uk have to remember shiping is a big part of the price on every thing!

So I take it you are kicking yourself for not having insurance Xeon.:nono:
I'd say I've spent a good NZ$1000 (US$600) so far. I still would like to spend another NZ$350 on a vacuum pump. Plus more hoses and other valves.

I couldn't get it if I wanted it. I'm kicking my self for actualy trusting some one:mad: same thing made me homless for two months, they kept telling me every thing was fine so I payed my rent then three days later "Oh bty we owe 3g and have to be out of this place in three days, you can store your stufe at our slime ball friends or leave it here to be seized" Ya, just peachy options so I whent where there was just a lil under a micron of a chance of salvaging some of my stufe, got 10% of it back. beter then nothing I supos, At least the weather was nice for the first two weeks :(
