Well I thought this would be the perfect place to ask my questions seeing as XS has the most talented phase change builders around. I got some parts so far and the rest (case, filter/dryer, evap, condensor, froster xe, insulation and misc.) should be coming from Chilly anytime. I just got my 608 type I certification so I decided to use R22 gas. My first question is, should I run Alkylbenzene Oil or Mineral Oil? My second question is what viscosity should I get. My third question is whats a good static pressure to fill my unit to before I start tuning? I will update this thread as my parts come in and my unit comes together so you guys can give me tips. :D Oh and Happy B-Day Chilly!!!

Just a word of warning, that flaring tool hasnt worked for me at all. Its more of a plumbing one then a refrigeration one.

LOL, I got it for 5 dollars and I bought it mostly because of the tube benders. I have better flaring tools but they arent in the pretty packaging. :D

nope that one should work fine, it is the exact same type of one as I have buaght.

You basterds! you have it so lucky, a test so simple a drunk labotamized monky can pass it and then you can buy tons of refrigerant!

flare tools are the same, except for quality ,cheap ones do not grip well or may not have all successive sizes. their are 45 & 37 degree, all plumbing and refrigeration is usually 45 degree

use mineral oil and charge to tank pressure for static then start compressor and add a little at a time into low side allowinf 2 min. to circulate before adding more.

For some reason I all ways figured to use AB with R-22, Ah well, at least they'll be squeaky clean inside! (I've since DL'd some nice referance charts)

Well im gonna head down the the local refrigeration supply store and grab some refrigerant grade mineral oil but what viscosity should I get? I also heard that AB was the best oil to use for R22 but if everyone tells me mineral then thats the way it will be.

Just get some 150 POE.

POE is compatable with all refridgerants....mineral is compatable with only certain ones...but get ready...POE is expensive.

Well my compressor has mystery viscosity POE in it now from the factory... Also, I have read that POE has caused problems with R22. I have also read that POE is also a solvent so anything in the tubes from brazing will be in the oil if you run POE.

thats true, I use POE for cleaning and as lubricant for making flares, and dam does it do a meraculous jobe of cleaning and making a perfect flare!

if you get mineral make sure you get non wax forming and foam free.
