I have been AMD for three years now since Northwood. I have kept tabs on Dothan along the way, but never got around to getting one. I hear Yonah, Conroe, etc but have no idea what to anticipate. What's going to be the hot cpu this year ala Northwood in the Intel category? To tell you the truth, AMD is getting a tad long in the tooth for me. This happens with everything. After awhile, the same brand gets boring to me. I still love AMD though.

AMD is aparently going to get kicked hard this year. Look for Conroe benchies on google, they are not hard to find. Just as reference Conroe beats (acording to those benchies) around 20%+ the AMD Fx60 @ 2.8Ghz on every test.

I saw em. What is Yonah? Is that a laptop solution? And Core Duo? I'm lost. Been so long since I've been on the dark side. :)

core duo is just a name, like pentium or opteron.

yonah is the core name of the 65nm dual core pentium-m chip that is currently out
merom is just a name for conroe on s479

conroe is a new chip loosely based on dothan

use the search function and you'll learn all you can read

what exactly makes the yonah chips so special?
65nm dual core?

die shrink, HIGH ipc, low power, dual core, and very overclockable

just look at benchmarks.

they are very fast, run very cool, and they are not too expensive as well :p
My T2400 ES is waiting for a mobo like others here

Yonah has improwed performace per wat over Dothan. Merom is the 64bit Yonah with some other improvements as well. Both, Yonah and Merom are cooked using 65nm production process.

Conroe termal envelope is 65W for moust models, 95W for extreme edition chips that are to come out later than those up to 2.6Ghz frequencies. 2.6Ghz Conroe can easly beat FX60 2.6@2.8Ghz by 20%+ in every test performed. Has 4MB L2 cache, 2MB per every core.

To this date boards are not available for these procesors, allthough Yonah and Conroe has fallen into few people hands lately, but when they are you might want to ask about best RAM for overclocking these procesors.

It's not 2MB per core, its 4MB for 2 cores. The cache size distribution is dynamic, and depends on the load of each cpu.. :)

so it'll distribute the cache according to the load on each?
how does that work?

one core is working alot, the other core is sitting on its ass, the the hard working core says screw you im taking all the cache for myself...:nono:
