I was load testing my presler D940 (well for my single stage unit about week ago) so was running 2xprimes on it for overnight... 5ghz and 1.6v ish. Damn chip was so hot that I was surprised at my evaporator temp going to new high i've never seen on my units... (guestimating 180w or so).
Later on when I already took everything apart my customer tells me that it is in cpuz top 10 ranking and that made me wonder... what is the stable overclocks with preslers on phase? When I get few more units built, I will take screen shot, etc but wanted to get some general idea of how people are doing in Intel.
(I am sorry I know this is typical noob post but alas, been out of intel scene since p4 2.4ghz northwood frenzy I had... :P)

my 940 does 4.7 stable and 4.85 3d bench under a stock prometeia gt.Any more than 1.4v (in bios) on full load overpowers my mach.

I am sure this also overpowers ur electric bill!

yeah, electric bills are mental here, but i dont mind that, its my hardware bills that kill me.

Hey jinu, when it comes to Preslers, it's really luck of the draw. Mine will do benches at 5250-5325MHz depending on the bench and suicides at 5.65GHz on phase (SS). I don't know what your idea of "stable" is, but for truly *120%* distributed computing type stable, I'd say 5.0-5.1GHz and 5.2GHz for everything else to play it safe.

On DI, I couldn't hit a solid 6GHz for anything. It gets so hot so fast >385FSB/1.65Vc, I barely had time to screenie the 5931 in my sig before it locked up...and that was just idle. There's a good reason pretty much all Preslers >6GHz are on LN2 and using higher multis (ie. ESs or XEs) ;) I was pretty out of patience after trying to hit the 6GHz for an hour, so I only did one 3D05 bench @ 5.45GHz on DI to see if it would pass. It did, but was going through DI like water. I had to refill at least 5-6x and that was just the 3Ds (stopped at the first CPU test).

They just get amazingly hot when the clocks/FSB get up there. I'd be more than happy to test out one of your SS or cascades and report back :)

I could quad prime (HT) my 955EE @ 4.66GHz.

But yeah, I saw my electricity bill with the baby, shot up $90 from the previous quarter...so I got rid of it...

Too bad i couldnt play with it first. Try it out on the cascade when you get a chance.

My 920 runs 24/7 @ 4837

Yep, it is hot cpu...LN2 is the way to go for >6Ghz.
Cascade must be fine tuned for high heat load.

U must find elsewhere the culprit... ;)

Not true. 955s will run 6ghz on a SS.

Intel really binned those chips well.

That would have to be an insanely strong SS to have the capacity to hold a 955 @ 1.6V+++++

Not saying that it is completely impossible - but very unlikely - maybe a Suide Shot with a very golden cpu and ultra strong Single Stage

EDIT - or wasrune supposed to be ruin?

With DI and 950@ 1.6V evap temp. @-65C idle and around -30ish high load:(
I don't want to know whats the core temp...

Most all 955s are golden.

It was supose to be run.
