Sick of the distant landscapes looking like split pea soup??
well, this is a fairly nice fix, and it's not too demanding on the videocard either, incase your system is running this ok, this mod won't do much to lose your frame rates, but it sure will make the game look nicer. :D

theres the full conversion.
this is the outer regions, the inner regions.
and the shadow pack for the distant landscapes.
it's almost 150 megs of stuff to download, but the final result is definatly worth it.
stage 1.

by the time you do the final shadow pack, the landscapes look great.
its a easy set of mods to do too, just alot to download.
well worth the time, if you want the game to look better, while not sacrificing much in frame rates.

to be honest, without some sort of before and after pics, it's kinda hard to know what to look for.

This is an incredible guide:
http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html
I used that to get Oblivion running decently on my laptop's Xpress 200m. I will tweak it more later tonight.
I NEED A POWERFUL DESKTOP! IM DYING!

I did the tweak and it does look alot better except for one thing, the water reflections. They're just completely off and look terrible. Is there any fix for this?

I've been running these textures for about a week, they're awesome  I also tried some 4096x4096 ones, but they made the game take way too long to load.
And yeah that tweakguides thing is awesome, I went from unplayable 1024x768+HDR to perfectly fine 1280x960+HDR with that, and no stuttering when loading new areas.. basically from ~20FPS-30FPS on the same save with higher settings. Not sure which setting did it, just use all of them :D

The only tweak I have put in so far is the Quiet Feet mod which got rid of most of the stuttering. But for the most part my FPS are 40-60 average anywhere. And I'm running 1280x1024 6xAA 16xAF - HQ AF - and HDR (chuck patch drivers).

well as an update to the above post it has been released here (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=348636&hl=). sorry for no before/after pics but in order to save hard drive space after i unpacked the textures bsa file i deleted it, so all i have are the new textures and no before ones.
and don't worry the topic is simply closed because it reached the post limit of 200 (they close topics after 200 post for some reason...?).

Kunaak, I can't get those mods to work at all....I placed the files in the folder, but it still looks like watercolors.
EDIT: also, I somehow got physically stuck....it's where a ladder drops me off, so I can 'leave', but when I go back down the ladder, I get stuck again. Is there a way to get unstuck?

kinda going off topic here but does this game favour ATI or Nvidia cards?
looks aload better with those patches the 'before' was like 3d01's nature with LOD tweaks :nono:
cheers, Ed.

this game definatly perfers ATI over Nvidia.
I have 2 7900 GTX's in SLI, and a single X1900XTX in my back up PC, and this game, by far perfers the single XTX over even my SLI 7900 GTX's.
ATI for this game, by far...

Kunaak (or anyone), if you go to the launcher and click on data files, are the mods listed there? This is really bugging me as I can't get the tweaks to work at all. :(

Awesome! Nice find, it didn't drop my FPS much either.

Do you have to unpack the BSA texture files to get these mods to work? Would uncompressing the BSA files give any performance increase?

no. only if the mod has an .esp file, then you can toggle it on or off.
okay so all the mods ive put in the data folder may be working after all....
*sigh* think ill start all over again and chech every mod i put in there instead of just throw everything in and hope for the best...
When i play oblivion i suddenly feel the need for CF, 1680x1050 is a bit hard on my system escpesially when my screen prefers vsync on! alot of tearing if not... but i think ill get used to that tearing!

oblivion mods are essential, the vanilla game is lacking. besides improved textures, get oscuros oblivion overhaul, illumination within, no psychic guards, natural environments, better weather, better nightsky, natural water, sound enhancements, oblivion mod manager, to name a few. My game computer is being rebuilt, and I can't remember the names of any other mods. I have around 30 or so installed, big improvement over plain oblivion. the best place to find mods is at www.mwsource.com
