was the reason it took so long so it could run on nearly every OS like they said?

dukenukem has not been officially cancled and the developers themselves still say its coming. but on thier site they say "Coming "When it's done" from 3D Realms for the PC." which is not too encouraging :(

This wouldn't even be a problem if they didn't hype the game so much,if they had waited and showed glimpses and trailer when they are done or close to done then they never would of lost this much respect from the community.

Side note,if this game ever comes out it better be the greatest game of all time for making us wait so long lol.

My guess is that they have to do an entire engine rewrite

nah, if they are still making the game then dx 8 is enough for that type of game.

Unforuntantly, a Duke game never took much brain work to create, pigs and alot of tassles to throw around, to claim its taking 8yrs+ to create is just bull.

Well if its a rewrite then they passed 7 then 8 and were about to release it....but OH NO! DX10(WGF)so they have to cancel it again...and rewrite it again for DX11 lol.

I doubt they are working on it at all really. They probably keep it as a hobby, a project they can put out when they don't have anything else to do. I really don't care though.

that actually happened the last 3 times or so i think. at least that was what
you could read somewhere on the net. ah, new engine. ah, another new
engine. ah, come on, make it a 3-peat.

if you think of it, maybe they knew what they were doing when they
chose the name "duke nukem forever" - because that's how long it
will take them to finish it ;)

hehe, apparently you aren't up on your Duke Nukem. ;)

this game has been in development since (i think) 1997. It's never coming out.

I think they left it behind and started on Prey.
Their Prey game is like Duke Nukem Forever. It never really got to the release date, but it seems that now it will finally release with the Doom3 engine.

On that site there is a link on a E3 video from 1998 with the Half-Life (1) engine, but its too small so I found this expanded video in video.google.com:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8058336897463815214&q=genre%3Aad_promo&pl=true

They will probably start all over again with Duke Nukem Forever afther they finish Prey. 3D Realm may be too small to develope today's more complex games, so it may take them a lot of time on a single game. Heck, they probably have the same people since Duke Nukem 3D.
Hopefully Prey sells well so they can buy a more expensive license like the Unreal Engine 3 or the Crysis engine with a larger staff of developers.
