Looks pretty damn crazy. What kind of hardware would we need?

thats probably a ut07 engine variant. dont quote me i made an educated guess. to have that many moving objects with full collision detection and realistic physics just blows my mind.

That video has been for some time now...
Cell Factor is estimated to release on Q4 of 07.
By that time there will be r600's and g80's, and some Ageia PPU's.

Syphon filter videos an advertisement, wait for that one to finish then the real video will load. Anyways that looks pretty good. What I would really like to see is the system requirements.

well, i DLed a movie from guru3d.com about the PhysX card, it was a demo of a game called Cell Factor. Holy crap, it does look really promising. If i can get one of these cards for say 100 to 200 bucks tops, im sold.
This is looking cool, with more and more processing power becoming availiable, Games will soon have bigger, seamless environments, beautiful graphics, more interactive objects, brilliant AI, and realistic physics. Gaming will hopefully soon be super realistic.

Those new physics would be great for a Jedi Knight game.

I hope newer games have realistic gore with detachable body parts, guts, and fluid blood.

Rating on game boxes are (at least in the US) "recommended" ages for playing the game. We all know people mature alot faster or slower depending on their lives and what has happened to them. They are not law, so no, you wouldn't get arrested for playing an M rated game.

That is why God created the internet.. to let us have access to virtually unlimited information and games :p:

In Belgium, the rating means more than recommended age.
When I wanted to buy GTA Vice City (18+ rating), I had to bring my dad, 'cause they wouldn't sell it to me (and no, it wasn't just because the shopkeeper was a pr!ck)

actually no. your wrong.

the age is who it can be sold to. need to be certain age to buy rated M games.

its just like with buying movies.

or going to movies.

you cant go into a pr0n shop and try to buy some porn, and then tell them "thats only recommended age" when they say your too young.

Yup if your under 18 and you try to buy an M rated game any legit store like best buy or Ccity wont sell it to you.

That video is awesome, physics is definetly the future of game play, how its implement is another story. (seperate card or onboard vid card)

I won't be buying one until most games support it. It looks cool but what good is it when no games I play have any use for it.

gr8 idea but until its got widespread support its not worth it

I won't buy it for two reasons. Number 1 it is on the PCI bus. That bus is saturated enough as it is without having this card bogged down on it even more. Why are they not releasing it on PCIE? We all have those ports sitting on our boards being useless. I will wait till they release a PCIE version first. The other reason I am waiting is too see how Phsyics on Video cards will come along, particular for the new ATI offerings as they seem to offer a lot of hope.

Of course I want to see how hot these run, can they be overclocked, how loud is the stock fan, will other cooling options become available etc? We won't know any of this until awhile after the card comes out though.

If I were to get one it would be the ASUS variant as it has 256MB of ram onboard. The BFG only has 128.

they are releasing them as pci-e, and ive already read that the pci version wont saturate it

It's because that particular business set those regulations. This is all for the US though, I understand that other countries laws and regulations vary.

Was that just a pinball demo? If so, it didn't look all that impressive - I think some of the other promotional videos on the Ageia website look far more impressive.

I plan on getting one, there are a couple of different versions out so I'm going to wait till I see some reveiws with games I play to see if it's really worth the $300+ they are asking.

Make sure you all go back there and watch the second trailer if you haven't already (at the bottom click on Cell Factor Trailer 2 HD). There are some new features shown off. Most notably amazing cloth simulation and cloth tearing, and fluid dynamics. Everyone now spills out a copious amount of blood, and when you shoot fuel barrels oil spills out which you can then ignite into a huge explosion.

Personally I think the most impressive thing is the cloth simulation, in the beginning when the ship flies through the flag and the it tears is awesome. I have also heard rumors that they are having bandwidth problems getting this game to work smoothly over the internet and so far it is LAN only, hopefully that wont be an issue.

I heard there are two versions of the PPU. BFG will release the 128mb model, and Asus will release the 256mb model, as someone already said. BFG model should go for $275 and Asus will sell for over $300. The PPU's will not be like other parts in a computer, like a video card where a new one comes out ever 6 months. The PPU upgrades will be through software. Sorry, can't find the link right now. Here is the link for the Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter PPU comparison. Huge difference.

Lol. That's exactly the game with a "huge difference" in a negative sense of the phrase....

...And BTW, does anyone know why this need all of a sudden for a completely new piece of hardware in our rigs? Couldn't they just make the physics be processed on the second core of a CPU, which, for now, is mostly doodling its cycles & electricity away by running mundane tasks like anti-virus patrol...

for starts, the second core of a cpu isnt going to be "doodling away" forever, the second core is and will be used for important tasks as dual core matures.

so why would you completely skip a stage in technology advancement and skip out on a card that could cause as much of a jump in gaming as the gfx card did, just becuase there was a short window of time where the second core of a cpu didnt do much?

and what happens when that second core becomes utilized to its fullest extent as all software becomes multithreaded and cant be used for physics processing anymore?
