Take a look at these HD trailers in @ 1080p only and tell me if your cpu chuggs or if it can hang!
16blks (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/16blocks/hd/)
Or try 1080p for this trailer
Xmen:TLS (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/tls/hd/)
This one is a killer at 1080p
DeepSea (http://www.apple.com/trailers/imax/imaxdeepsea3d/hd/)
Heres a good on but only at 1080p
Promise (http://www.apple.com/trailers/warner_independent_pictures/thepromise/hd/)
@ 1080p only

DeepSea has a few chuggs at the beginning but the other trailers run perfectly on my opti @ 3.1ghz
at 1080p that is.
what sucks about the quicktime codec is that it doesnt benefit from H.264 acceleration. and it has a pretty low color depth.
example:
Check out here:

Many of them ;)
About cpu usage, if you have PureVideo...in a dual core, around 15% :D

^^I tried those, not bad but why do they exe compress them or zip them???

Dang hogs my 805 cpu. Takes about 40% usage but runs smooth. This 805 setup is running at 2800mhz only due to mobo limitation. :)

Nice links. I like the graphics and high resolutions.
Most of the sample HD trailers were originally encoded at 23.97 FPS. No matter how fast the computer system is, it's not going to run the video smoothly due to lack of FPS. I also do have a copy of some HD movie trailer and it's the same way.. Need at least 30 FPS or higher in order to run smoothly. It'll certainly tell if the system can handle decoding the video but unfortunately just about all HD trailers have limited FPS. This one has low data bitrates too.

I have lots of HD files that are 30~ 60FPS and at very high bitrates but they aren't MPEG4 H.264 type... just MPEG2 and MPEG2-TS.
QuickTime and their H.264 sucks so bad :(
For those who know something about encoding, get the x264's H.264 codec http://x264.nl/
Currently, x264 is the best H.264 codec available and beats all other H.264 in all types of tests. As for performance, my cpu utilizations sits on ~25% while decoding on my 2.8Ghz amd64, same goes for my P4 at 3.06Ghz. Oh, and use ffdshow based on liba with wmp10 or whatever to decode H.264 movies becease it provides best image quality and performance and it will not hang your pc at all ;)
