The charts claims that 975x supports conroe. Is this true? Can i start buying parts now?

The 975 chipset definitely supports Conroe, the current mobo hardware presumably does not however...specifically the power circutry. There will be new revisions of 975 chipset boards that will support Conroe and they are already making their presence known. I saw a blib on an Albatron 975 Conroe-specific board that will be released and it has a whole new VRM package along with digital PWM.
Current 975 boards *may* be able to be modded to work, but that's a big if. If you are buying the board specifically for Conroe, you might as well wait for Conroe-specific boards as well and be sure you're not gambling by buying one now.

thats exactly what i was thinking. I feel bad for the guys over at [H] that are ordering motherboards now trying to prepare for intels take over.
Lol someone should tell em.

I am not on [H] so they're on their own ;)
This is a pretty heavily debated topic right now. The problem is, there is no actual "proof" one way or the other (if current 975 boards will work or can be made to work with Conroe). Intel ran that Conroe in a current 975 board so apparently everyone thinks/hopes/assumes that's the answer, but the board was supposedly modded and I guarantee Intel wouldn't go through that hassle if all that was necessary was a simple BIOS update. That, in addition to seeing the new power circuitry on the Albatron Conroe board, and it just doesn't look very promising.
All I can say is, if someone is buying a board now expecting it to work with Conroe, that's just a BAD move :nono: The Conroe-capable 975 boards may be out long before Conroe too because they are backwards compatable (ie. work with current procs) and obviously the 975 chipset is already available. I think personally I'll be waiting for the 985 boards, but we'll see ;)

To 975X or not to 975X?
Let's see:
From the previous page of that ExtremeTech (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1940319,00.asp) site:
Core Logic for Conroe. ntel has indicated that Conroe will work in existing 975X motherboards, though a BIOS update will be needed.
From this: Article (http://dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1471):
Then in this chart you see Conroe (& Pentium D) working with 975X chipset: SEE CHART (http://images.dailytech.com/nimage/932_large_kentsfield.png).
And then:Kentsfield will still be a 65nm processor on the Intel Core platform, and work with existing 975X motherboards that already support Conroe. Due to the different voltage requirements on Conroe/Kentsfield, the first batch of 975X motherboards manufactured before January of 2006 need a different voltage regulation module (VRM) to support Core processors.
Now, it's the P5WD2-E Premium a post January 2006 motherboard? Something tells me that ASUS has an ace up their sleeve. Which BTW, wasn't the 955X going to support a 955EE and that only a 975X was going to be able to?
So......to 975X or not 975X.

Core Logic for Conroe. ntel has indicated that Conroe will work in existing 975X motherboards, though a BIOS update will be neededI read that last week...it doesn't sway me. Until Intel says in no uncertain terms that it definitely works with Conroe, I won't believe it. Again:the board was supposedly modded and I guarantee Intel wouldn't go through that hassle if all that was necessary was a simple BIOS update
Then in this chart you see Conroe (& Pentium D) working with 975X chipsetAgain, we know for a fact that Conroes work with 975 chipsets, no one is disputing that. The question is, will they work with the rest of the hardware on current 975 chipset boards.
the first batch of 975X motherboards manufactured before January of 2006 need a different voltage regulation module (VRM) to support Core processors. Before I even finished reading, I was already thinking, "that post was written in January", so thanks for mentioning that it was. Had it be written yesterday, it probably would've said March instead. That was just a poor choice of wording.
The fact of the matter is, there is no proof if they will or not so buying a current 975 board is still gamble. If someone is absolutely desperate to have a board before Conroe is out, at least wait a couple of months and get a new revision 975 board that definitely supports Conroe and says so.
yeah 985 is def the way im going. better safe than sorry:thumbsup:

Hi all, I am still with my old trusted 865 PE chipset. And the only CPU that is not supported by my chipset are the Extreme Edition Cpus! All 500, 600, 601, 605, 800, 900 series are supported! Long live 865PE
