I have a stick of 512MB RAM and the RAM test will only pass if on the orange socket away from the CPU. If I place the RAM on any of the other 3 RAM sockets it will not pass the RAM test.

Does this mean the MOBO is defective?

The RAM is GSKILL F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE. I have 2 sticks but the machine was randomly rebooting with no OC so I decided to test the RAM individually. They will both pass RAM test alone if placed on orange socket away from CPU.

If I place both of them on both orange sockets the machine does boot and recognizes the 1GIG of RAM. But i get random reboots.

Take the CPU out, spray the pins and socket with compressed air, and clean the socket with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Then spray it with compressed air again to dry it. I had this exact problem, and when I did this the problem just magically went away.

I will try that. However, it seems that upon closer inspection, one of the 512MB GSKILL sticks is bad. The computer randomly rebooted.
So my question is.....I do have more than 1 problem. 1 stcik is bad...and how do you explain the ram sockets problem?

the reboot could aswell be caused by the same problem.

install this module alone and run memtest test 5 for several loops and tell us if it will be stable or not

Hmm....I ran a memtest TEST#5 for 10 loops on the suspected GSKILL stick of 512MB and got no errors. So the RAM seems to be fine.

Summary of problems:

1- With only 1 stick of 512MB (I have tested 3 different sticks) the machine will only boot on one of the 4 RAM sockets - the orange one away from the CPU

2- Random reboots

MOBO is the problem then? I have not tried the compressed air method described by one of you though...

Any help is greatly appreciated

Everything is at default....RAM is at SPD and timings on AUTO.

I haven't tried placing the 2 sticks on yellow slots since they are TCCD. I know that I cannot boot from either yellow socket on single channel.

ya single module will need the orange top slot

try to change the timings ( atleast the first 4 ) to the specific ones of ur ram and don't leave it to spd

Try downloading and flashing to Tmods bios. This worked an absolute treat for me when I was having problems using 2 sticks of corsair in the Ultra-D. I can now use dual channel in either yellow or orange slots and both clock as well as the other.

Have you tried another BIOS?

Either for my TCCD- or TCC5-Chips the 702-1 from XS worked very well...;)

From my excperience too, a single RAM should run in the yellow slot away from CPU.
