The question though is, is it worth $20 more than the SLK-800?

For me, no. But some other folks really like to use the mounting holes. According to overclockers.com, it's only a little better than an SLK-800 for Athlons. C/W of .22 vs. .23
It well be better for someone who moves their box around alot... like going to lan parties or something..... heavy asz sinks have been known to fall/snap off if ya bump it too hard.... through bolting will take care of that.

mounting holes are the greatest invention EVER!
anyway, i would love to upgrade to a SLK800, but i've had the clips brake off of my ZIF socket, so i don't trust them. mounting holes are the only way to go for me.

I found the Alpha PAL8045 for $27 at coolerguys a couple days ago. That's for the bare heatsink, but fans are buy 2 get 1 free.

well i have a 80mm delta, its 68cfm at 48db.. its about as loud as i wanna go. the 92mm vantec its 56db.. you know for every DB the sound is 3times louder right?
well my mom wouldnt like that :)

for every 3 dB, the sound is twice as loud, technically. human ears don't hear this way, so a 3 dB difference may not even be noticable.
i'd get one and stick a medium CFM fan on it. panaflo or something.

felix is correct, Dissolved. it actually works out this way. for every 3 decibels, the amplitude or power, if you will, of the sound is twice as much. but our ears work on a different scale. for every 10 decibels, our ear "perceives" a source as being twice as loud.
ever check out specifications for car amplifiers or even home recievers? they normally list db for 1 watt, and it is at like 80-90 dB. now at full power, for say a 400 watt amp, it isn't much higher, maybe 120-130 dB. that's 400 times as much power as 1 watt, yet only 40-50 dB more. but it isn't 400 times louder to our ears.
