1)Install xp sp1, F6 and select which of the following drivers?:
- Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)
- Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)
- Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)
- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH6R)
- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH6R)
- Intel(R) 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH6M)
- Intel(R) 82801ER SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH5R)
My setup with consist of to Raptor drivers in a Raid-O config...I figure 64 for striping unless you think otherwise.
2)I've already updated the bios to version 0401
3)Do you need to install any chipset drivers within the windows environment as well?

That's what I thought but I'm having a very strange problem. I had windows installed and was running prime95. Soon as I exited of prime and did my initial windows updates, the system will not boot into windows any longer so I restart it and tried to go into safe mode with no luck. Tried a window repair but I can't even get to that point. Tried a new installation but I get as far as "Windows is starting" and just hangs there...kind of strange.
I didn't do anything in bios...everything is default.

You have to enter BIOS, and setup the on chip SATA controller to RAID, then you must enter the RAID setup menu, and create your stripe arrey.
Then you can install your XP.
Unless you are goin for the Matrix RAID, then you don't need to install annything more for the controller.
The bigger your chunk size, the faster the arrey is going to be.

At this point, I'm just trying to get back at Windows. I had it up with a single 38G WD raptor for test puposes. Everything was fine, now when I reboot it freezes up in the "now loading for windows". I've encountered this once before with the 955 chipset board when I didn't provide enough vcore to my Intel 955EE so I maid sure I had it up to 1.35, 266fsb, vdimm to 2.1.
Like I said, I had it on Windows and even ran Prime 95 without a hitch. Make a few basic windows updates, restarted and that's it ... just freezes up. Can't even try to repair it or install windows from scratch. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I never heard on anyone getting SP1 to run on the 'E' board and had to use SP2.

what does that have to do with the installation process. I had SP1 working just fine the other day so I'm not sure what you are saying here.
This is a very frustrating situation and am ready to pack it in. I'm looking for some badly needed advice on what's going on with this mb.
I can't even run Lifeguard to check my drive...saying that it needs the dlglice. Well that file is in my ISO and the cd works on my other computer. Even tried another drive.
I wonder if it could be my PC POWER PWS:eek: . It's the 510.
I'm running SP1 just fine. Well almost just fine. Some apps like Sandra etc. can't read the clock speed correctly when I go over 4.3GHz. Other than that it screams.
Have you tried booting into safe mode and going with "Last Good"?

Yes I have. It just starts to reboot. I've even tried to reinstall xp..I don't get. Maybe it's this bios version 0401. The problem is, how the heck do you suppose to install another bios option without a floppy drive?...crazy...Asus is very dissappointing.

try 1 drive at a time. ide prefferably. a fast 133 umda ide will be as fast as a sata drive, maybe a lil slower. i had windows installed on my diamond max 9 and when it would go to windows it would have green blots. so i selected it as a slave, using my western digital ide as my master. fixed my problem.

I thought about that and managed to find an old IDE drive...I'm installing windows on it as we speak...so far so good....crossing my fingers.

OK...got xp back up and running on an IDE drive. Plugged in the sata drive that I originally had running and runn WD's extended diagnostic test and it PASSED. SO...now I have no idea what is going on.
Maybe new chipset drivers for the intel sata?...

You do need sp2, just download it and see if it helps first!
If you still experience problems do you find this in your device manager:

Well, when I reistalled the os on the ide, then hooked up the sata drives I had no more problems. Just about to work on the vdroop mod.

The problem I had with SP1 was BSOD right after the install after XP ran for the 1st time. It seems SP1 doesn't support the 975 chipset on the P5WD2-E. I installed SP2 and it worked fine. I'm only telling you what happened to me. If you got SP1 to install, then that's good...Just tryin' to help man..

Yeah I had a sh**load of problems installing WinXP SP1 on my P5WD2-E also, wen't like a charm om P5WD2-P, but SP2 was needed for the 975X chipset.
I thought about it for a bit and I am running SP1 on the 975X, but I didn't install SP1 on the 975X. I had last installed on the 875. I did a repair install to the 925X and the 955X, but when I plugged the drives into the 975 board the message came up that I had to re-activate, but it booted right up.
Hmmmmm. It might be time for a clean install....

Go DL a redistributable SP2, and then use nLite to integrate SP2 into your current XP-SP1 CD, and then burn a new CD with the SP2 slipstreamed on.
Then you shouldn't get any more problems from the 975X chip, only the Marvel controller chip.
