Well it's the second Friday, so that means payday, anyone here played this and have any thoughts? I've read on other forums mixed reviews, so I'd like to hear what you guys/gals have to say. I own Mafia and thought it was a spectacular game, then again from what I've seen it looks like The Godfather rips straight from Mafia. All comments, suggestions would be appreciated. If I get enough bad reviews/comments I'll just wait for a demo to try it out.

Holy crappola, no one here has this game? Then I suppose that should tell me something, stay far away.

a friend of mine called me some time yesterday and said that he liked it alot
and that some review mags over here rated it at 86% (whatever that means
- i don't know the mag nor their scheme of rating). he liked the mix of gta
and mafia and the graphics. sorry i can't give you more input on it. i'll
probably have a go at it come next weekend as i'm working the nights this
week and won't be able to see him before then.

I like the game play, although the graphics aren't on par to what they could be. It seems like they didn't do a good job on bringing it graphically to the PC from the consoles. Its fun, but the driving and some other controls are just awkward. Just my $.02

Is there a demo available? I'm very interested in this game.If its anything like GTA and Mafia it should be a hit for me.

Yea Mafia was a true gaming experience,Gfx,Sound, atmosphere and all.

And don't give away the ending ;)

P.S try it with soem mods, there are several cool mods out there.I currently am enjoying driving my rolls royce(Phantom)
Also, the extreme challanges are way too hard...I haven't completed a single one :(

Well I broke down and bought the game. It is clearly a direct port from the console games but still fun none the less. The game is very Mafia-esk but I suppose that's a good thing. The other night I played for 6 hours before I forced myself to stop playing and go to sleep.

Thats great,Major, glad you like it.I think I will get it now....as soon as I get a GFX upgrade ;)

How would you rate the GFX and sound?

First off I'm playing the game on a A64 3500+ with an overclocked 6800nu, and 1GB of RAM @ 1280X1024 with 2XAA and 8XAF. I assume it's 8XAF since they have levels 1-5 and I have it on 4. The only thing I have low or off is low shadows and the bloom effect off. I know HDR is nice and all, or the bloom effect, but in today's games it is way overdone and actally makes the game look worse to me. For some reason the game is capped at 30 FPS, and when I ran a 6 minute FRAPS timedemo I averaged 29.XXish FPS. So basically I was hitting the limiter more than 95% of the time.

My overall impressions of GFX and sound:
GFX: 7-8
Sound: 7-8

The graphics are almost on par with Mafia but some higher res textures.
The sound, I can't find a place to even change it. I went to lower the car effect sounds last night and couldn't even find the option.

*ASSUMING YOU LIKE/LIKED MAFIA*
I'd give the gameplay a solid 9. There are many of the same types of missions like in Mafia with some others that make the game fun, and hard to turn off.

that sounds pretty good enough for me!

you're right about the bloom though. most current games are just way over
the top with it - nfs mw anyone? if they were using lighting as done on the
outdoor levels in hl2, that'd probably rock a whole lot more than bloom (and
wouldn't hit the fps as bad).
anyway. i still have mafia installed and play it every now and again. it rocks
- the only thing though is that it always seems somewhat slowish, did they
implement a fps-limit there as well? maybe i'll check on that tonight, might
also have been the higher resolution doing that ;). gta always seemed way
more smooth than mafia. i'd rather have them limit it at 60fps - or userde-
fined (which would be perfect, probably).
looking forward to seeing it in action.
