Look at it from this way... if dell sells 1, they've made more off that one they they likely do off about two dozen regular computers.

Issues I have with it (at $10k):
- You could have gotten yourself a few SCSI drives for much better performance
- Only a 1 year warrenty? You paid 10k?!
- The "Dell" logo ruins the paint job
- The fact that it's marketed as having "come tricked out with the latest version of Microsoft Windows XP"... when actually, I would think the 64-bit XP would have been the latest version... it's like Dell wants you to pay $10k and not have 64-bit support, the fastest processor available, or DirectX 10 compatability.

For $10,000, I could build 2x opteron 285 w/ an ati fireGL V7350 or 7900gtx, 2 scsi drives, 4x 500gb sata which is 2 terabytes, 8 gigs of ram, top-end soundcard, pc&p psu etc. and just MAYBE still fit in a 23" lcd

No one needs 4 video cards, and if i wanted to be insane like dell, I would pick up the gigabyte quad royal SLI( true quad SLI ) and stick 4 of those dual-pcb dell cards in it and have octa-SLI, for $10,000.

And they could have atleast gone with the AMD fx-60.

Get your info straight... Dell had that rig in the ad running at CES in January... The Alienware buyout only happened a few days ago.
The big delay in getting the machine to market was waiting on nVidia (or whomever) to make the cards and waiting for the paint to dry.

I agree with charlie, give Dell some credit with what they are trying to do for the mass market (although, for US$10k it is kinda niche).

I guess that you didn't get to go to CES? nVidia and Dell both announced the Quad-SLi together and they used a Dell as the demo rig, Alienware was at that time mentioned as a VAR for the Quad-SLi set-up.

As for the buyout, apparently you have some insider information regarding the deal. I know nothing beyond what has been reported in the news and is available in the form of press releases from the respective companies...

I never once said that I wanted to use a Dell either, but there is indeed a useful place for them in world.
