CPU: X2 3800+ or X2 4400+
Motherboard: DFI?
HDD: I suggest you take one 74GB Raptor and one 250GB SATA(II), Raptor for OS, 250GB HDD for storage
RAM: maybe G.Skill 2GB ZX/HS/HZ?
just my two cents

i apreciate you input but why the 250GIG id much rather to a raid ara for preformance. and you say the x23800+ or 4400+ whats wrong with the 4200+? and whats the deal with the ram what makes it better just would like to know why you think this way so i can make the choice acording to quality and preformance.

I saw people on this forum saying they got better overclock with the Asus board you getting then the DFI, unless you getting a DFI venus.
Thanks

unless you have other hard drives that youre putting in this system, the extra storage will be more beneficial then raid, which is not much of a performance boost at all. i bought a second raptor, and just sent it back after i realized i wasted 150 bucks. if anything, id just buy the 150 gig raptor, which is, in benchmarks mind you, sometimes even faster than the 74*2 array, and comes out to be cheaper. as for the cpu, unless you dont plan on overclocking, theres no point of getting a 4200 over a 3800 as a 4200 is the same chip with a higher multi, they dont really tend to oc any higher. the 4400 isnt really worth it either, unless you need the 3-5% the extra cache brings. as for the ram, im not really familiar with 2 gig kits, as the only one thats even slightly interesting is the team group one, not sure where to get it though.

if i were u
250gb SATA II 16mb 2x raid 0 performs identicle to raided raptors thanks to higer transfer rait and 8mb extra cache on each drive.
Right now i would get an 3800x2 seing as they overclock extremely high nowadays:) sometimes better than the 165.
now for the mobo i would really recomend the abit an832x for a better overall board.
nspire or aspire? what kind of brand is that get an antec 550w for about 100 bux off newegg.
x1900xt oced to xtx pwnes the gtx and ofcourse its cheaper at 455$
just my two cents/
Opterons all the way!!!
G.Skill Kits are awesome...
DFI! Only the best...its like giving a CPU 5 Star treatment..
Get yourself a Fortron Source 700-Watt PSU!
Forget nVidia and get yourself a x1900XTX...you'll be much happier I promise...

Opterons all the way!!! - Not much doubt although the 3800+ is looking real good...
G.Skill Kits are awesome... - True, but so are SOME OZC, Geil, Corsair, and whatever...
DFI! Only the best... - Spoken like a true DFI fanboy. It's a popular product here but it's not the myth you may be led to believe...
Get yourself a Fortron Source 700-Watt PSU! - The specs are good, unfortunatley the reviews don't positively support the hype...
Forget nVidia... - Yep, I'd take ATI any day, but it is a personal thing...
Just my .02, flame away... :)

I can believe that two western digital 250gig in raid0 may have the same transfer rate as two raptors, but not the access times.

I'd say raid two biggers HDD's, run all your games etc.. off them, it would be better overall I think and it would work out cheaper because you get more hdd space for the money

Thanks for your lovely comments...
DFI is a popular product here because it has been tested and proven it works well...
And as for the Fortron Source...it holds up even to CrossFire systems...its not about Wattage anymore...you need the AMP to power these power hungry video cards...
