We've all had the dreaded "green stuff" turn to bits on us before, and it looks like amd is addressing this problem finally.

Here is some shots of what I'm talking about. This is a 0602 165 that I received in the last few days.

I did some drop tests on it, and its as stout as can be. no more damaged processors!!

The Processor clamshell itself is actually held in very securely by a cardboard flap, seen here.

Now where's the fun in that?

People play roulette for a reason.

lol, yeah i guess so. now we're playing with blanks

Haha, I'm glad AMD finally changed that. Everytime I got a new processor that "green stuff" would be in pieces. Which didn't make me feel very comfortable considering it is supposed to be holding a brand new $200+ CPU.

???

Never had a problem with the green stuff myself but I've only gone through 2 A64's.

I've had numerous boxes that have green stuff reduced to dust, and processor and HSF banging around on eachother.

but then again I've probably had 200 go through my hands

here's an opty 170 CCB1E 0550VPMW. All 5 i received in that shipment were like this or worse.

The green stuff in my 165 box was falling apart when I got it, the green dust went everywhere when I opened it and the CPU holder would keep falling down to the bottom of the box, lol.

I miss the clear plastic that had to be cut open...

I hated that, my intel Celeron 2.4 came in one of those.

I liked it, since there were 2 pieces of plastic fused together there was nowhere for the processor to go. it was nicly sealed in there...

I almost damaged the CPU when the packaging broke open and it came flying out. Hated it every time.

Indeed, It makes me happy. Although i'm a bit curious as to why we're not seeing this type of packaging on newer processors. this one is from january

The new packaging looks very functional, but also very classy. :) I especially like the heatsink having it's own little box. Strange, the green stuff always arrived in A+ condition for me. I guess they knew to take care of my packages.

Finally they changed it! I remember when i got my 3200 Winnie, it was my 1st time ever building a comp, and I was shaking the box w/ CPU before opening it... couldnt realize what was inside, then opened it and the word *BEEEEEEEP* was heard for a few city blocks. LOL

I am having a hard time believing I'm the first person to see this. Makes me wonder if it is for real...... I expected a few people to pipe up and say they've seen this packaging.

anyone who has seen this can you respond and verify that i'm not alone in getting a processor with this packaging.

Got myself a 0605 3800 this week which came with green stuff.

Glad to see that it has been changed though, I've feared seeing bent pins following a green stuff crumble so many times.
