Hi,

I am about to order a high end AMD XP 2100 with a 8RDA+ mobo and some TwinMos ram (based on advice in this forum and availability and price in the UK). Now my thoughts turn to which fan I should get - I have already decided on the SLK-800 heat sink which seems pretty cool (no pun intended!):D

I would prefer to cut down on noise most of the time, so a variable fan might be nice. However, since I will be o/c to the max will a variable fan be on full all the time? BTW, do I need to get 3 pin an connect to the PSU rather than the MoBo somehow?

I could buy

YS-TECH FD8125 80mm Fan - 4 Pin (FG-002-YS)
Also comes in 3 pin
» Speed - 3000RPM
» Output - 45.2CFM
» Decibels - 34.2dBA
£5

Papst 8412 NGML 80mm fan (4 pin) (FG-000-PA)
- CFM = 26.5cfm
- RPM = 2050
- dBA = 19
£10

Papst 8412 NG 80mm Fan (4 pin) (FG-001-PA)
- CFM = 40.6cfm
- RPM = 3100
- dBA = 32
£16.80

ThermalTake Smart Case Fan II with "Coolmod" (FG-000-TH)
- Fan speed 1300 RPM at 20°C, 4800 RPM at 55°C
- 20.55 CFM at 1300 RPM, 75.7 CFM at 4800 RPM
- 17 dB at 1300 RPM, 48 dB at 4800 RPM
£10.58

I'd got for the YS-Tech and with the spare money buy a Zalman Fan Mate1 which u can use to variate the speed on the fan.

I have the YS-Tech here and it's doing a fine job. With my XP2600 at 2300mhz 1.775v the socket temp is 31c,which would mean that the core is around 45c.

Not very noisy either. In fact the noisest thing in my case is the case fans themselves, caused by slight vibration when they're in the holders(Cheiftec Scorpion case). The one on the side panel is the worst offender.

I'm using a vantec tornado on mine... I recommend you not use that unless for testing.

Thanks for the vote of support on the YS-Tech - I'll got for this one. I'll see if I can get hold of the fan mate.

BTW, do I need to connect the YS-Tech to the PSU direct (3 pin?) or can I connect a 4 pin YS-Tech to the MoBo?
