so my BIPIII came in yesterday and I'm confused. The holes to mount the fans are not threaded!? What screws do I use to mount the fans?

thanks!

I think that you must get a long enough bolt and then put a nut on the end.
Just a suggestion -- I have owned one before.

not quite sure i understand. how would i put the nut on the end if the end is underneath the fan?

You use self-cutting screws.

Or simply zip ties as I do :)

Drag one zip tie through from bellow and use the end of another to secure it on top of the fan...

Yer supposed to use self-tapping screws. 4mm x 30mm. Btw, push is better than pull with BIP/MCR/PA.

perfect, thank you. exactly the info i was looking for. also, funny you say push instead of pull, as i was told the exact opposite from someone else. push is tried and true? any advantage to just getting 3 more fans and go for the full push/pull?

A few people have done small tests on this and have found little difference, however I would assume that at really low speeds that it would infact make a difference.

Only an assumption though.

Yup, the difference is about 1-2% at most.

i had this same problem the other day, as id always used double sided tape.

i just used a drill. to drill the holes to fit normal fan screws. make sure to put a thin plate of metal under the hole though so you dont screw up the fins underneath....... like i did.:slap:

Little tip how to make those fan cables look nicer: Roll the cables on the fans until they are twisted tightly and don't come apart any more. Did that on my Yate Loons and the cables look quite nice now :)

thanks for the tip. only concern is making the wires too short to make it into the case. think i'm gonna drill a hole in the case near the middle of the bip and feed the wires through there. with some wire ties i should be able to keep it pretty clean. just gotta get those connectors off so i can feed the bare wire though the case hole.

With the BIPs as well? I've heard it works better with the PA's but never the BIPs....

I have my fans attached to the BIP2 with wood screws (don't know the right word for it). It think they are the same kind that creidiki mentioned.

i have 6 fans attached to my BIP3 with the supplied screws... i put 2 screws in each fan... i need to get some shorter bolts to secure it to the top though, i have the nut on the outside of the case so i need the covered type of nut (acorn nuts?)

Pick up some 8x32 pan head machine screws.

ok, i found some screws rolling around the bottom of the shipping box, underneath all the popcorn. 12 in all. the only thing i can see these good for is mounting the BIP directly to the case (assuming you cut a hole in the case for air flow). since I'm mounting to the top of my case with standoffs, these screws are useless to me, but the good thing is, now i at least know what they expect someone to use to mount the BIP! :)

Thanks for the help!

The shipping screws are for fans that don't have the posts in the frame.

I have a newborn, so wasn't able to go out and buy new screws, and I wanted to get it running. Instead, I dremel'd out the posts on the fan.

Anybody that says "but that affects the structural integrity of your $6.00 fan!" is full of crap. I tested them before and after, and fan noise isn't affected.
