View Full Version : Why not closed loops???

How come everyone runs T-lines? Don't you have leaking issues if you lay the case on its side? I've always used closed loops filling my loop by submerging a component and connecting it under water while running after bubbles have bled... T lines to me never seem to get all the bubbles out? Is that just my bad luck?

might actually take longer to bleed a closed loop. i guess people still want some opening to bleed with a tee without loosing flow.

a "closed loop" (T-Lines and resivoirs are closed too), which i assume you mean to be a solid loop, is much more easily damaged by loss of water, which, even in a leak-free system happens, due to permeation through tubing, whiihc happens with pretty much all tubing, including tygon etc. Its simply a matter of system safety and ease of use.

Has anyone actually experienced that? I've been watercooin for 3-4 years now, I probably change my water every couple of months so I've never experienced that... as a matter of fact come to think of it, I'm still using first pump Eheim 1250, thats the one component I never upgraded and still works like a champ!

I choose the t-line for its ease/price and smaller than a resevior. I thought about doing a closed loop but it was too troublesome.
Also like bloody said, water does permeate through the tubing, but very slowly. I notice it in my loop. I have a rubber stopper on my tline and the water still drops.

t-line. simple. cheap. better performance. i close it with the sawed-off spindle from a 100cd spindle :)

Convenience of changing out stuff. T-line is in and out, and done. Plus, most resevoirs crack, which would probably worry anyone. T-line for me as well.

I don't have any experience with reserviors, although I have a t-line and I'm happy with it ;)

t-line, but I just bought swiftech res. t-line will be for filling and reservoir for better bleeding!

The first loop I made was a "closed loop." As in no t-line/res to fill. I bought a bunch of T lines and inline shutoff valves. Just copied Swifty's old fillport design just for 1/2" tubing instead of 3/8"

I'd bleed it for days to make sure there was no air in anything. But just like Bloody_Sorcerer said I'd get bubbles in my loop after a few months due to permeation

I never have used a reservoir, but then why would anyone want to? A T-Line is simple to make, safer to use, offers an easy way to fill/bleed yur system, & offer beter performance than a reservoir... (KISS) comes to mind here! :D

I used a T-line for almost 3 years now and really prefer it hands down. Ran a resivoir for a while but went back to the t-line

Over any extended period of time a closed loop can be dangerous for your pump as others have mentioned.. its also a pain in the arse to setup...

Res is the easiest to use, and is what I use now for my open setup, but for the case i am currently building, a T-line will be used for its small size and low risk of leaks.

i've used both, a 10mm t-line which was a bit of a pain, and used a bay res, which was ok, execpt it meant tipping the case backward a little so the water went through ok, and then used tanks, which i found so much easier, just fill them up, leave for a little while, fill up again etc, where as t-lines drain so quickly! never had a problem drainin with a rad, just make sure theres a bucket under the point at which i decide to drain, then pull the tube out :P

A true closed loop is a pain in the rear. I just use a t-line. A little harder to bleed than a reservoir but it wasn't too bad (although the noise from my D5 nearly drove me insane).

I'm using a T-line plus a reservoir with double inlets on the pump. Gives me a higher flow compared to using a normal reservoir setup, still bleeds the system in no time.
A completely closed loop, like some pre-filled systems have, would not be the thing to go for. You'd need 100% sealed tubes that don't let any water get through, which normally isn't the case. As you normally have to refill your system from time to time, a reservoir or T-line as water reserve makes more sense.

I use a reservoir, it was a bit hard to do a T line with an external setup like mine, so reservior worked best. (it's actually a Pepsi bottle) Just unscrew the cap and add more coolant.
