Good you could join us Thrilla. :)

Rosetta at Home is a distributed computing program that seeks to improve the health of humanity through science(long-term, obviously).
Here's the wbesite for the project itself, which also gives a good description of what the project does.
http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/

And here's a link for a setup guide on the rosetta program:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84660

And don't worry, Mikee should be sending you a PM shortly with a nice detailed explanation of how to set evrything up. :)

Again, if you have any questions whatsoever, post them here and we will help you out for sure. Good to have you with us!!! :woot:

Nothing's a secret, we want people to join

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84660

That thread explains about setting up. And then we have various subteams. My team, for instance, is The_Machine. Talk to some of the team leaders if you're interested in joining a sub team.

whoa - looks like trakslacker's already taken care of you nm ;)

Rosetta is a program that we run that aids in medical research, It can run in the background and you wouldn't even know it was there. The big thing as of late is a Dutch Team known as DPC(dutch power cows) is talking alot of smack to XS. You don't want smack talkers to beat us do you? Then your in the right place and in the end we will be barbecuing the cow and there will be plenty of beef to go around :)

I don't have enough RAM...

trakslacker
03-17-2006, 11:24 PM
how much RAM do you have?

Thrilla
03-17-2006, 11:26 PM
256...

ahh...that could make things difficult. it might still run, but its gonna be rough going for your system. Rosie takes up about 80MB of RAM, thats the one area where it does take up some resources.

Let us know what type/speed you need, and whether you are currently running 1x256 or 2x128. If its some older stuff one of us might be able to get something to you at a nice price. We're generally pretty good like that. :)

Hopefully we can make it work for you.

Ok, now I've really got to go to bed, too. I'll check in on this in the morning. Hopefully one of the other guys might find a solution for ya before then, though.

dunno about the timings, but I have a sneaking feeling that our spiritual leader DDTung just might have a 256MB stick of PC3200 stuff laying around that he has already offered to the team. ;)

Hit him up on PM(he's prolly asleep right now) movieman, and see what the word is. I'm sure someone else has some laying around as well.

Alright, this time I really AM going to bed. :D

Rosetta runs fine on my 2.0P4 lappy with 256MB ram, so even with 256, you would be *ok*

That is correct. In fact, I have a bunch of 256 sticks(Corsair value and Geil value) that are well burned in.:D
