Heya, although i have been reading this forum for some time this is the first post
I make, so please show some understanding if this is the wrong place for this post.
I have the a8r-mvp I run it in crossfire mode with 2xX1800xt 512 mb (Powercolor).
A 700w PSU (EPSILON FX700 ) provides my power, I overclocked my opty 170
0541RPMW to 2.5 with 1.4 v. My main issue is that when I play games,
intermittently, I see green squares, in a chequered pattern, this looks like the
static you get with a bad TV signal. I wanted to get a screenshot, however
printscrn didn’t show this chequered pattern, I got a normal pic instead.
Anyone who knows what this is or has had similar issues and can advise
on what the problem might be.
I havent oc'ed the graphics but have had to up their voltage to 1.3-1.4v in order to
get the system to be stable in games and 3d-mark.

Did you change the drivers? I think that changin' these wil fix the problem.
2xX1800xt ... Xfire, so, update the drivers... The chequered pattern says all (its a crossfire mode)
and another thing. ¿did this happen with alll your games, or only with 1 or 2?

I have the latest 6.3 drivers, although i updated (from 6.2) in the hope that this issue would
be resolved... it wasnt. I've noticed this in a few games GUN, Call of Duty 2, Lord
of the Rings 2, Star Wars Empire at War.
Although this might be a driver issue, I don't think it relates to specific games
since all these are quite diverse in their graphical environments, and I think they
use different engines.

yes, all those games do use different game engines. as for those pics... it looks almost like ram corruption going on there. are you sure the ram isn't overheating at all?

The 4x512 Redline have a thermaltake 70 cfm fan on them. The video Ram on
the X1800's should be ok as i haven't oc'd the cards at all. The Ati control
centre shows 56-70 C, which i think is normal. I got a reply on another forum,
(ASUS) where a guy told me that this is a cross-fire issue related to the drivers.
As far as i'm concerned that seems a bit shabby on ATI if that's the case though
i am not sure and haven't read anywhere (reviews etc) any issues such as this.

when you installed the 6.3's did you just update or did you blow the old drivers out tnen install fresh?

looks like a bad driver install.

Dear all,
thanx for the input, i think i have found and fixed the issue.
Sometimes its the most simple thing that goes wrong which makes the
hit the fan. I uninstalled the drivers using cat uninstaller, and removed the cards,
in order to check which of the two cards was busted, installing that is each card
in turn and then checking if i had same issue. However, I noticed a problem with
the crossfire cable and its connection to the master card. By screwing it tight or
by moving the case around, two of the jackscrews for the same connector were
broken, that was from the 'B' socket of the twin connectors. By taking one of
the jackscrews from 'A' and putting it on 'B' i have made the cable secure again.
:woot:
Seems like its working fine, problem gone!
