has anyone ever done it acording to this article http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/workstation/page2.asp it sound like it might be a fruitful endevor . if the extra cost dosent kill the point of it.

check 2CPU (http://www.2cpu.com) they might have something on it, but dont bother going to their IRC server they act like elitists...

i mean in a single cpu format if that even works with mp if it dosent id imagein that you could just cut that l5 bridge that you connect on xp cpu to disable the multiprosessor stuff thanks for the link to ill check it out.

I just replaced my A7M266D with an A7N8X, the AMD760MPX does not overclock well, I was never able to get the bus above 142mhz. Also you cannot alter the multipliers if using 2 processors on the board, nor can you change the vcc of both processors.

So to sum it up if your looking to overclock, a dual AMD is not the way to go.

um i think i should explain alittle better the article that i linked to in the first poast says that the mps are picked for lower temps at the same clocks as the xp chips thus making them more reliable now what im saying is if you took a single mp (lets say a 2400) and put it in a single cpu board that posobly it would yeld higher clocks due to the lower temps that these chips saposidly yeld at default speeds. i am in no way saying to try a dulie system. this is kinda like the intel guys who use the mobile chips due to the lower voltage that they take at default. basicly im asking if any one has done a direct compairison with an xp tbred and an mp tbred:)

OH my bad, gotya now. From what I understand the MP's are exactly the same core's as the XP only individually tested and certified for the MP role. The two MP 21OO's I used ran just as hot as any other XP I've used. They just anounced the MP2600 which is based on the new core, and they will run at the same temp and core v as all the other Xp2600 out there. I read the article and It makes sense, but I think if there where any advantages to overclocking the MP's EVERYONE would be using them.

I think Major Slaughter hit the nail on the head. The only diff between XP's & MP's is that MP's are tested by AMD to run on dually mobo's. That's why lots of us who run Folding @Home mod the XP's, since they're much cheaper. However, I've read that the Mobile XP's (for notebooks) O.C. really well, for the reason you already stated. They run cooler, and use a lower default vcore. I could be wrong there tho, as I've never owned a mobile chip (yet). ;) The mobile chips ARE more expensive than desktop XP's tho, so it could be a spendy experiment. ;)
