I just received my Sapphire X1900XTX, installed the cat 6.3 drivers without the CCC, installed the ATT, but default gpu and mem clock is only showing 500/600, WTF??? aren't they suppose to be 650/775?!?!?!? I'm not familiar with ATI stuff and this is my first ATI card ever please tell what's wrong with this crap? And yes I have the 6pin pci-x connector hooked up.

Thats the stock 2D clocks, in 3d it'll throttle up to 650/775.

which ATT version do you guys use? I got mine from techpowerup and it's the 0.25 14 beta

that's the best version at the moment. Has all the tweaks available.

I'm a dang noob when it comes to this ATI thing....I wanna leave the 2D alone and only overclock the 3D, normally how do you guys do it? I don't see that option anywhere in the ATT.....

everything in ATITOOL is 2D. That's all you need to worry about. If you want to overclock start with the voltages then go on to the clocks.

ahh...I see, I thought they're like toobit for nvidia and can overclock either one, my bad. for now I'll leave the voltages alone so all I need to do is look for the max gpu and mem clock for 2D then the 3D will automatically throttle up to match the 2D?

indeed. You'll need to set the voltage for the core between 1.35-1.40 if you want to push the core clocks up to the standard default of 650. You can undervolt it but I wouldn't do that until you find out how much voltage your card likes. I can undervolt me XT to 1.2v and still maintain my 625 core default.

oh ok, I see 4 parameters for the voltages, I'm still using the stocker cooler and not trying to bbq this thing yet so normally what do you recommend for starter? I'm starting mine with the following:
1.450
2.116
2.116
1.500

ben805 when you started ATITool dida box come up asking if you wanted to disable an ATI service? That service is what causes the clock change from 2D to 3D clocks and volts. If the box didnt show run services.msc and disable the ATI Hotkey Poller service. This will then run your card in 2D clocks/volts all the time, which you can change with ATITool.

when that message popup I always selected YES, will go to the services and disable the hotkey poller now. So let me see if I can understand this, basically when the ATT shows my default clock at 500/600....that's 2D, when 3D throttle up it would automatically bump it up to 650/775? so at the ATT tool if I overclocked them to 650/800 and when 3D apps launch, does it mean 3D clock will end up at about 800/975 since the increment I made was 150/200? I score ~10000 with everything stock, after I set the ATT to 650/800 I get ~13000 LOL This ATI card is definitely fun to play with, artifact detection plus the voltages adjustment and all :D :D
I'm running my Opty 148 at 3.36Ghz at the moment, I'll slap in the dual core when I get more familiar with this new toy :D I'm not sure if this is normal but my gpu underload temperature is around 70~71

thats a normal load temp for stock cooling. However the 2d 3d clock thign doesnt work liek that, if you dont allow ATItool to disable ati2evxx.exe what you set in ati tool will be the 2d clocks, but when you go to 3d the stock 3d clocks will be applied. For example:
all servies enabled:
I set 700MHz 1.4V core 800MHz 2.1V mem in ATI tool. The card is running those volts/freqs in 2D. Then if I run a a 3D app the ATI service will jump in and set clocks and volts to default 3d (650/775 14/2.1)
services disabled:
I set 700MHz 1.4V core 800MHz 2.1V mem in ATI tool. The card is running those volts/freqs in 2D. If I run a 3D app no ATI services are running to interfere so 3D clocks are the same as 2D.

I believe running one instance of 3dmark can tell you if your 2d clocks and 3d clocks are different :)

thank you all so much for being patient to explain all that stuff to me :D in that case I'd barely overclocked mine when I set them to 650/800 then  Ok I'll get busy to work on the voltages and other stuff and see how far I can push this thing. The dang monitor went black and lost signal a couple times when I use the Find Max core or mem, had to reset the system....will have to keep a close eye to this thing and load the default as soon as I see artifacts and tearing on my desktop...

Don't mess with the find max clocks yet. W1zzard is still trying to get that straight on the new betas. Voltages for starter would be 1.4 - 2.086 - 2.086 - 1.486. Those will probably get you up to 700/800. GL

And its the safest 24/7 setting :)

I'd bump my gpu core up to 1.52v now, the rest are same as what I'd set earlier , the card kept losing signal when I tried anything over 730 on the gpu, I left the memory at 800. The zippy 700 is not even close to taxing out yet but when I touch those little square chips next to the long pink sink they're burning hot, not sure what are those but I have some swiftech ramsink on the way to cool those little nuggets. With 700/800 my 3Dmark05 score 13065....this is alright yea?

Sounds fine so far, and people are reporting that cooling those black components has a fairly large effect on overclockability.

The black components are the series inductors (if my understanding of what ViperJohn said is correct). I have them sinked on both my cards. I haven't noticed any higher overclocks because of it but my votage regulator temp in ATITOOL is lower than before.

Ok maybe I'm imagining things now, lol! Sure I read that somewhere, oh well, probably me thats wrong.

I think Steve mentioned something about them being the voltage regulators....
