Hi,
I have been waiting since last summer to buy a new video card, and to date, I have simply not been satisfied with the expensive options. I need something that will last me for at least 2-3 more years of gaming. I currently have a 6600GT 256 MB, and this thing blows, especially trying to play games with a 2560*1600 resolution, LOL. It simply cannot handle my 30" monitor.

Now, the plan was to wait until the G80, and have Vista support, but I don't know if I can wait that stinking long, especially since Vista might not be coming out for 6-10 months! Would it be wise to invest in a 7900GTX now, and maybe, just maybe, get a 2nd in SLI a year from now? Or should I keep waiting with my hideous 6600GT?

If you think it is worth the wait, I will gladly wait, I just need a few solid opinions.

Dude - with a rig like that it is EMBARASSING to be running a 6600GT! :slapass: Go for the 7900GT now and then do a card later that will handle DX10 and all the new stuff. IMHO

as I said, if I get a card now, i cant "do a card later..." thats what I really want to know about... is it worth it considering the fact that what I get now, I am stuck with for a long while

if your going to be stuck with the card for a long time.. couldn't you take half the money you were planing on spending and get a pretty good upgrade now and a much better upgrade later?
for example instead of blowing $400 on a kickass card now.. why not just spend $199 now on the 7600GT and in a year or two get the next middle ranged card at the same price.

Buy a x1900xt or 7900gtx now (depending on preference/price/feature set). SLI isn't really worth it unless you find a really good deal on a pair of cards and/or you get a high end SLI setup early in the life of the card. If you find yourself needing DX10 support when games come out that actually use it, sell the card and get a new one.

edit: why not just spend $199 now on the 7600GT and in a year or two get the next middle ranged card at the same price.

The only problem with that is if he wants to play any recent games on his 30" LCD at its native resolution, a 7600gt makes that pretty much impossible.

well, I am doing it now on a 6600 GT (w/dual link DVI) but I think the 7600GT is a pretty decent idea... anybody know if there are any that have dual link DVI? or do they all?

Thanks!!

now, my remaining question is, will one really provide a noticibe boost? I doubt it, because my 256 MB 6600GT is kind of like the same card... i mean, same RAM count, same bitrate for the RAM... will the new core work miracles? can I take BF2 from medium @2560*1600 to high again, @2560*1600?

I just want to know if its really worth spending $200 when I just bought a $160 card 2 months ago. thanks
