I don't know whats going on with my temps, I have an FS-V7 on my xtx, with a high powered panflow 120mm fan over whole card and an extra 92mm fan blowing over the rest of the card. I also have copper ram sinks.

Anyway I OC'd in ATI tool, to a modest level, 1.4v 680/780. I played about 2 hours of Battlefield 2 and I was shocked at the screen when i closed the game out. The temps were off the scale, look how hot it was during max load:

97.9*C!

Im surprised the card still works after this. Any way I need to figure out why this has happened, it must have lost contact with the HS or some thing. Seriously though have you guy's ever seen a GPU reach higher temps then this, I have never heard of it.

XT/XTX cards are reportedly able to withstand temps over 100°. Will I ever let that happen to mine? No!

Pretty hot there man. :stick: I'd watch it....try anything you can to lower the temps....but don't worry about it too much. I almost puked when my GTX with the stock cooler hit about 82C in the warmer months loaded. I have it much much lower now. ;)

The Zalman cooler isnt good enough. Many have testet that cooled on the new X1800/X1900 cards with only bad results.

Can you look at the contact? I'm curious to see if the entire core has great contact. The Zalman's contact area is relatively small and some report GREAT results after a smidgen of adjustment.

no problem be sure

I was going to just wait until march 9th when the new zalman cooler comes out although it probably won't be much better. I wonder if lapping the current cooler with a thinner layer of AS5 would work better?

my Sapphire x800 (blue PCB nonpro, 12 pipeline, barely overclocked) with the stock POS cooler, ran at 75C+
In Battlefield 2, it hit 95C and up, causing my FPS to crumble due to autounderclocking. :(

So yea, I once passed 100C barrier :D

Ok im really getting worried now I just played BF2 for a couple of hours and I did no over clocking. some thing odd smelling in the room I noticed but ignored it at first until I realized it smelled like some thing was burning! it was comming from my computer It scared the hell out of me so I just opned the window and stuck the whole box in the window seal It smells almost like burnt plastic its really concerning me.

Inspect the card....and the cooler (specifically the fan--copper won't smell like burning plastic at 100C, lol).

That doesn't sound good at all--but I wonder how some people get good results and how others get HORRIBLE results, like yours.

EDIT: check the fan for the melting plastic....and the PCB, etc.

check if the cooler is making contact or if its hitting other components.

if its not then id say faulty sensor.

how does the area directly behind the core on the pcb feel??

it was pretty hot when I touched it but it was after I turned off the game, I don't know how fast it would cool off.
