I currently have an asus a8n-e and 2gb of mushkin xp pc4000.
I can't seem to get this ram stable at anything above 250mhz 1:1 :S could this be because of the motherboard? If I use this same ram on a dfi ultra d, do you think i can get higher?
my cpu is good for 2.7ghz, i've used the ram dividers, and tried all different kinds of timmings.
btw, these are all the ram settings available in the bios: http://img446.imageshack.us/img446/8097/picture0072fd.jpg

even within the same motherboard model you can have 5 different boards and 5 different top ends. The DFI NF4 is a good example of this.

the asus A8N-E are known to not be very good at going above 250-255 area , no matter what ram you have.

Yes it will probably run better with a DFI. It would be very rare for a set of XP4000 to top out @ 250.

ive had my a8n-e up to 272htt 1 to 1 with ram.at the time i had some ocz plat and ran the ram at 2.75 v.this was on my 3200 e3 venice.i felt it could have gone higher with more tweaking but is was borrowed ram and i didnt want to kill it.it true though the dfi board could probubly go higher with the same hardware.those dfi boards seem so great for o/clocking.my asus board is a great board and i love the thing but im gonna try a dfi just to see what all the hype is about.either the ultra d or expert ,dont know which one yet.id like the venus but 300 bucks is just too much for me.

I've got exactly same pb with my gskill hz and a dfi mobo => blocked @250 with every settings....maybe a chipset limitation i don"'t know ... or bios is crappy.
