Hello there,

Before we begin id just like to say ive never fitted a peltier kit yet,and ive still got my head in the TEC cooling book trying to learn what i can.Hopefully some of you guys might be able to help me achieve this.

Ok i would really like to buy myself a peltier kit and have my system running at sub-zero temps so i can do some serious overclocking.I dont really wanna go out and spend £500-£600 on phase change cooling as yet,So the peltier as caught my eye. Iam fairly confident i can fit the peltier myself but i would just like a little advice on things i should avoid and things i should take into concideration, ie Condensation & the psu.

Ive been reading about independent PSU being used to power the peltier and on the other hand ive read that people have got away using there initial
580w PSU

Ive seen a 320W peltier kit on ebay which from what i can gather and from what ive already established is a powerfull peltier.Is a 320W peltier far to powerfull for my system,Or will i need a peltier with this type of power to achieve the temps i want?

The kit was only £30 and included:

320W DPCTEC POTTED Peltier
50mm x 50mm coldplate
25g dielectric grease
6.2mm sticky-back thick neoprene

What you think?

The system iam hoping someday to install this peltier on is as followes:

MOTHERBOARD : Asus A8N SLI DELUXE
CPU : AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4600+
GPU : XFX Nvidea 7800 GTX EXTREME
RAM : 2 X 1Gb DDR400 PC3200 XMS CORSAIR (2 GB total effective)
PSU : TAGAN TG580-U22 580W

All this is currently being cooled by a :
WaterChill Xtreme CPU/VGA/Chipset Cooling Kit.Dual 120mm Radiator,
Quad Fans (03-L-1317)(WC-040-VP)

My pc temps are running idle at:
CPU = 30C
GPU = 33C
CHIPSET = 28C

Under load at:
CPU = 33-37C
GPU = 36-40C
CHIPSET = 28-31C

Dont know if ive missed any information out thats relevent to this,if so please ask and i can let you know

I would be very greatfull if someone could give me a further insight to TEC cooling and advice on some of the questions this newbie needs to know.

Thankyou and Kind Regards
Gaz

someone else with more no how in this matter might be able to tell you more but I I think the 320w tec is a 60mm x 60mm! so I would watch buying that off of ebay!
I use a 226w tec from www.dangerdenstore.com and it worked great for me! As for the psu I have been told to look on ebay for switching 12v but I am using a meanwell! The meanwell works good but you have to run the full 12V you can't lower it at all!!

Its 50mm, buy a block that already has a cold plate, you cant just sandwhich them, clamping pressure is important.

Get a dedicated PSU if you are gonna run that TEC anywhere near full power. ie >5v

Good luck, read up a bit more you will get a hang of it.

Well there aint much info about the actuall peltier apart from it being 320W.

Here's the link if you wanna take a look.
