I sent in a 3700+ and they sent me back a 3800+. Should I be upset or just laugh? I was going to sell it anyway, but it just seemed odd they did that, at least give me my L2 cache size back.
Its an LBBWE 0523FPMW

Equal or greater in their eyes, you get to keep that chip. The 3700 is no longer made as far as I know, and basically if they don't still sell it to their partners, they won't replace with it, and the 3700s are EOL.
You can try chain-linking swear words and see if they eventually give you a better chip, but the odds are stacked against you, you already got a faster chip as far as warranteeable goes.

Yeah I'm going to sell it anyway, the 2 times I have used AMD RMA's they have sent back faster chips. Back when I had a 1400 (I think) they were like oh we dont make those anymore is it ok if we sent you a 1800+? Uh yeah that will do fine lol

I'm guessing he got a 3800+ Venice
LBBWE 0523FPMW that stepping isn't a dual core stepping.. the 2nd B in it means single core, with 512k L2.
Sweet deal dude, free speed for the shipping cost :toast:

AMD is a genius company I guess.. I owe my credit to freecableguy's guide on stepping here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=87182)
The same thing happened to me before when I went to RMA my OCZ Gold Vx PC-3500. At that time it was just discontinued (EOL) so they gave me the PC-4000 Gold Vx for my RMA return instead :)

False, the Venice just hasn't got the L2, it's die size is much smaller as the SD's.

What do you have to send when you RMA, only the chip? or the box/receipt too?

You dont need the box, just the chip and the HSF and I would mount the HSF at least once before sending it back.

When I rma a winchester, I had to send in the HS as the bar code was on it. They told me they changed that because people were misplacing the HS and that is why the certificate of authenticity has the bar code on and the HS doesn't. They told me on a newer cpu with a COA, you do not have to send in the HS.

It's a retail box, i just haven't used the hs/f. I just stuck the chip on the thermal tape of the hs/f to make it look used. I hope that's good enough.
