In the uk I get mine from maplin electronics.

I think the closest thing in the US is radioshack.

There seem to be loads of options on the dowcorning site, im not sure exactly which ones will be best.

But for TEC application I think this will work
http://www.dowcorning.com/applications/Product_Finder/PF_details.asp?l1=009&prod=02202565&type=PROD&pg=00000027

Although there might be better ones.

As for your question about what coating is made of...

Im not sure exactly whats in it.

But its not like di-electric grease.
Its much more like varnish.

Three kinds I use: the Dow Corning in the syringe that Danger Den sells. It's good for beading edges of sockets and neoprene sheets. It's thick and dries hard.

The Aerosol spray is good for covering large areas such as the back of MB's and Graphic cards. Don't get it in sockets or connectors.

And a brush on type in a small bottle for detailing areas around sensitive components and connectors.

Most commercial electronic supply houses carry all three kinds; you’ll have to look around.

I got a free sample quantity last year from DC. It's in a liquid form for syraying applications. I decided to use this product which worked just fine. http://www.jab-tech.com/MG-CHEMICALS-ACRYLIC-LACQUER-CONFORMAL-COATING-pr-2713.html

No, don't use anything that is not labeled conformal coating for electronic circuit boards. Something else may work but you won't know for sure if it reacts to other materials, retains moisture while drying, has capacitive prosperities or will it come off.

You "can" use white thermal paste in the place of dielectric grease.
Messy as hell to remove but it works.
