MNEWXCV. I see you built that like, 4 yrs ago. Which, is cool imo, cuz back then it was the best of the best.
Pretty sweet tho, glad to see someone still has the early FX series in use. :D
uOpt, sweet setup. Quad Opty's? Holy crap.

Thanks. It's not really a leisure machine, although I personally own it.
I got fed up that low-count SMP machines were screwing up my multithreaded programming skills (not to mention the damage that Hyperthreading did).
So the 8-core is the testbed for reality checks.
Only problem: I have to re-write pretty much all my code :)

Not overclocked. Webserver/gameserver for pcgamersclub.com. Basically we just have a group of people (clan) that play all types of games and we host em on this server. (BF2 and NWN mainly)

What overclocking options are for these old boards? :D I see 220 is no problem :p:

LOL. Yea, equal performance but it don't OC nearly as well.

Usually lousy. No FSB/HTT control in BIOS, but on the NForce boards various clockgen type utilities work (I use the Linux one).
For volts you can only turn up to what the CPU allows, which is still more than the default. For example, mine run at 1.35 V default and I can use Linux cpufreq to get to 1.40. Hardware voltmods are usually easy.
PCIe/AGP/PCI lock unknowns, some boards are known to lock automatically.
RAM is fine, on most boards you can set deviders just fine, so that doesn't limit your overclock.
A small problem is that ECC RAM often doesn't like radical frequency changes (in my 939 boards, didn't have the problem in 940 boards yet).
But keep in mind that the power flowing here is a lot more than in 939 boards. Two or 4 CPUs make for a lot more power, and the boards usually carry a lot of junk like multiple southbridges, PCIe, PCI-X and PCI all in one board, SCSI, fan headers. Just brutally overvolting and overclocking doesn't only put you to the limit of the PSU, it might burn some connectors or regulators on the board.

I just bought a second hand SK8N with an FX-51, not together yet as i still need $$ for video card/RAM/PSU.
Going to put a 7800GS in it.

Going to put a 7800GS in it, does the SK8N recognise the unlocked multiplier of the FX-51??

Around $380 canadian since that's where you're from, not a bargain as i'm sure i could get something PCI-E based second hand with a overclockable CPU for similar $$.

4X1gb OCZ (well, 2 is on the way)
BFG 6800GT softmodded to Quadro.
Gonna wait 'til either the 280's or 285's get a bit cheaper after all this AM2 and Conroe "nonsense." ;)

I work for a GSP, we're building servers for our own benefit and we're getting our ducks in a row to go big or go home. We've finally got an investor, and it will help us out alot, right now our New York 246 box is packed, and our Texas Xeon boxes are packed full, once we get these opty's going, It will be a whole big festival, although I'm sad that the new Opty socket is coming out so close to our big upgrades.

You fixed your problems with PCP&C 1KW?
Will Zippy run fine with 4 875 systems?
Thanks

The PCP&C I returned for refund.
I now use the 4x 875 system with a Zippy 700W. Loud as hell but works well.

Are there any single-socket s940 boards that are good for overclocking?

You find one, tell me..:D
The old boards for the FX-51 had overclocking options. But they probably don't run with the dual-cores, maybe not even with any E stepping.

I've got a Opty 266 that I was hoping to use in maybe an asus SK8V or SK8N if I can find one reasonable.
