View Full Version : Upgrade to X1900 worth it?

I've got a BFG 7800 GTX at stock speeds, FX-57 at stock, and 2 gigs Mushkin Redline XP (4x512). I'm not into benching or OCing much but I do game quite a bit. I run BF2 at medium-high settings, no AA, at 1920x1440 resolution and I get 60-80FPS.

Since I can sell the GTX on eBay for a decent price (maybe 400+), I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the X1900XT/XTX? I could spend about $150 to upgrade and I'm wondering if you all think that the X1900XT/XTX will see improvement OR if I should wait for the new Nvidia card?

I'm guessing it's worth it since the new nVidia card will likely be in the mid-600's when it releases and who knows when that might be.

I've tried to read reviews on the card but my knowledge is limited to assess whether the X1900XT/XTX is a big enough jump up from the GTX.

My hope is to get all settings to max and turn AA to 4x. Currently I can't go lower than medium-max settings and no AA while keeping FPS consistently above 60 at the 1920x1440 res. Any inputs?

Of course it is!

In BF2 at 1920x 1400 and 4 AA the 1900 xt will give you +24 fps....above the 7800gtx 256 with the proper cpu....(AMD Athlon 64 FX-57).

The 2 cards are not even in the same league!!

If you want to wait for the new nvidia cards it's your choice....it may be worth it..no one know..:(

nope :)
why upgrading for something that the eye cannot see without statics ;)
if this turns into another "you cant see over 60 fps" im going to :banana::banana::banana:ing shoot myself. back on topic it is a very worthy upgrade

I've just upgraded from my x800xl to x1900xt and i can say that i saw a big difference in gaming performance.I didnt have the chance to use 7800gtx though, but i believe that the overall performance gain is not that big.It is clearly your choise and money dependant.I would propably stay with 7800gtx waiting for a newer card for upgrading because i dont think that there is some game that you cant play with it yet.

lol that's not the point, i cannot tell at any point of a game," oh yeah now i'm running at 50fps and now at 47" ROFL!

probaby not, but with games like COD2 where you have 60 ppl on one map, and you see a nice dip into the teens with a 7800, yes, you'll see a difference. I just want it for FEAR. And its been shown to deliver in that game compared to my 7800gt.

In a couple of weeks we should know if the g71 will be 24 or 32 pipes.

If it's 32 pipes and can hit 700mhz core it will beat the x1900xt in prob everything and give it a good showing in fear.

I think that the change in FPS would be barely noticeable

if i where you, i would try finding an x1900xt/x and see it running,
some people, including me ,affirm that ati`s graphics are nicer, if there are nicer to you and think the change worth it go ahead, and of course with an 1900 you would be able to use some AA AF
