BF2 new problem, peoples cd keys are suddently not working? including mine..

I have no idea what to to make of this. If I had to guess it may be due to a keygen duplicating my key and some one being online right now using my key. I just re-installed BF2, updated to 1.2 patch. and tried to join a server and regardless of what server I try to join it says "invalid cd key". I know for 100% fact its not invalid I even updated it.

I found this whole thread at another forum about the topic, what is going on here this seems like a common thing right now. This is the only game I play so it's kind of up setting that I paid money for it and cannot play it because of this.

That sucks, if this ever happend to me ID be really pissed. All you can do is call EA up and give them youre CD key and tell them whats going on they will verify that its a real key and probly tell you to take a picture of the box and the key itself. Then they will probly give you a new cd key

the exact error message I get is "LOCERROR_cdkeyisnotvalid" When I google that exactly, I get 14 results all in german. I tried selecting english results only and it said 0 found. I am clue less.

Just do what i said, call them up tell emm what happend they will prob give you a new key. Happend to me with my Win xp someone i guess got my cd key and M$ gave me a new key

then why are multiple people saying its happening to them, and for no reason just one day it says invalid key when they try to play. did you not read the link I posted theirs more info about it if you search google its happening to a lot of people and EA doesn't know why.

I just installed BF2 on a different computer using the same key and I got the same problem which is even more proof its not a local problem its some thing out of my hands. this sucks.

i had the same issue after patch 1.12 i reinstalled bf2 and patch a few times and it worked.

I got off the phone with EA, after 1 hour of talking with them they came to the conclusion that they have no clue whats wrong and left me with no soulition. Im really pissed. Im going to call back again tommorow and talk to some one else, how can they leave me hanging with a game I paid for that I cannot play.

Well BF2 has always been buggy and it's a fact. You have to re-install it a few times to make it work. But then again I stopped playing that game long ago when the unranked servers starts to empty out. It's where the fun is and not all the greed in rank servers:D

I have had this happen to me after patching on one of the earlier patches, you need to re-validate your key:

I'm having the same problem, I emailed EA, and after a week got the response that if I want to play a game, I should pay for it, instead of copying the serial off some keygenerator

The BF2 patch temporarily installs a small Trojan called Ruin which monitors unsual disk activity. This trojan for some reason thinks that some overclocked systems have corrupted data, sometimes its due to some MD5s on the unpackaged install files not matching up because of overclocked/non-overclocked systems, and you might be getting some real funky errors (i.e. CD Key Not Working). Some overclockers, such as myself, have had many issues with corrupted installations. I do however have a good method for getting BF2 with any patch to work even you're overclocking.

Heres my little FAQ for getting the BF2 Game to work via my clans forums regarding the CD Key Issue.

This also works for any BF2 patch and fixes a lot of major install problems.

Checked-out the CD Key that was in the registry and saw that it had been modified and broken. . . .
. . . . { more than likely from the "patch" crap...OR SP1 or SP2 "clipher-crap" who know's??? }



A - 1.= First_off....It's YOUR OWN fault if you SCREW up anything for here/in the Registry>>>

1. Start off 4 = BF2

2. Open regedit ( start > run > regedit)

3. Go to HKLM\Software\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc

4. If yours was like mine, you will see that the entry is nothing like your CD Key.

5. Delete everything "AFTER" the "x9392" and input your "CD Key" for BF2. (x9232CDKEYHERE)....
......Do not put in the dashes.

6. close & reboot; then, installed patch; again,>>> checked RegEdit on this just to make sure
before attempting to get into multiplayer-Game-play........
(maybe even reboot first....)

7. THEN, after BF2 is up and working OK....Install BF2:Special Forces. After the installation,
ensure it is in the RegEdit, also.....HKLM\Software\Electronic Arts\EA Games\
Battlefield 2 Special Forces\ergc.........CD Key for SF without dashes.

8. Install the "patch" >>>>yes again ! ! .......and also check out the cd key in RegEdit
for both, again.....( just to make sure and all ) ! !

THEN COMMENCE TO GO ONLINE & GAME-ON ! ! ! !



Performed all this on quite a few machine's & system's for this same problem-O,

[ like 95% of the prob's ]; and have been in several servers & Gaming >>> ON . . . without issue's.

. . . . once again i had to do this after installing the NEW 1.22 patch........this time when i checked out in the "registry" it only showed = "x9392" and Nothing else after the "2" ! ! ! ? ? ? i just re-entered my CD Key and rebooted then commenced into the game and WAHAaaaaLAAAAaaa! ! ! ! all work's without a hitch............
