DDR400 2-2-2-5 vs DDR500 3-4-4-8
Does anyone know which setup would perform better?
My P4P800SE has the option to run memory at 400 or 500 with CPU running at 200FSB and PAT enabled.
With old P4, because of the high latency, it seems like higher memory speed would improve performance more than tight timing.
But dothan has really low latency, and I am wondering, which setup would result in better performance.

ddr @ 400 + PAT will be a bit better

i think the lower latency setup would be fsster, epsecially since it would be 1:1 with the fsb. if you could run 250 1:1, that's a different story.

In my case with Corsair pc3200XL
Dothan @ 10 x 275 with 2.5-3-3-6 is faster than 13*210 @ 2-2-2-5 on a P4P800-SE
Super PI @ 10x 275 = 25.5 seconds
Super PI @ 13x 210 = 26.5 seconds
YMMV

I'm not exactly sure, but 2-2-2-5 200mhz w/ PAT will almost def be faster than 250mhz 3-4-4-8. If it was 2.5-3-3-6 like bhoward's, it may be a different story.(OT Bhoward, does your comp run 24/7? OT)

I believe with P4P800SE and bios 1011, as long as you set CPU at 200FSB, you will get full PAT regardless if you set ram at 400 or 500.
So, let's assume PAT is not an issue here.

Yes ... I boot at 201 x 10 and use clockgen in the startup to change the FSB to 275.

I tried exactly the same scenario with my 770/P4P800-E dlx/Geil PC4200 mem sticks. They are able to do 2-2-2-5 at 400/FSB 200 to get full PAT enabled and 2.5-3-3-8 at 270 FSB. I had the best scores with the 2-2-2-5 setup (Superpi at 25-26 secs). I would really like to get some memory sticks, that would do 2-2-2-5 at FSB 220-250 :D......
