boc say it has higher capacity than r404A. quote

CARE 45: (R1270 Propene also known as propylene) A high purity single component substance appropriate for use in many industrial and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning applications. It can be used in place of R22 and offers high performance without any of the issues associated with temperature glide.

CARE 45 gives slightly higher capacity than R22, R404A and R407C at high temperature, and about 10% to 20% higher capacities at freezer temperatures.

so would this be the best refrigerant for non licence holders but it has a low molecular weight? please any more info appreciated

yes it's boiling point is even slightly better as that off r507. If you can get it it is the best gas for non-licence holders.

You'll have more luck finding the holy grail than finding ethane for sensible prices in the UK :D

£190 isnt a bad price for 12Kg of good refrigerant, but Calor will only let you purchase it after you've attended the Care refrigerant handling course. I had planned to do this, but pulled out due to time...

pocketbikeuk i have some HC22/502 here, product specs says that it boils at -50c at 0psig,

some specs from manufacture

rotten cabbage smell
initial boiling point -50c-0C
auto ignition point 550c
vapour pressure at 20c:950kPag
flash point -104c to 60c
lower flammibility limit 1.9% in air
upper flamibility limit 9.5% in air.
vapour density 1.5 to 2.0 air=1

its 95% r290
and 5% ethane

and a link when i first got it

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47094&highlight=hc22%2F502

from my testing i have found it no better than BBQ R290.
with no load at 0psig i have only been able to get -42c, seems that the ethane doesnt do anything.

But if its all ya can get its better than nothing, CARE 45 is made from a different manufacture. in australia a few years back they had care 45 and care50, hc22/502 is ment to be the same as care 50.

heres a thread i started on care 50 also

for care 50 to work properly you need quite alot of subcooling or a slhx from what i understand, but care 45 on the other hand would be pretty good looks easy to compress and its boiling point is -47 if you can get care 45 please try it out and send me the results i might undergo the care traing so i can buy some buy it is quite expensive but if its as good as they say on the site then it would be worth it.
