Hey guys I just put a rig together yesterday i got one of the sl78z 3.0 intel retail boxes and put it on my IC7_g, x800xl video, 2x256 or 2x 1gb, maxtor 80gb, sblive.
It ran fine and cool at stock and 3.6 took it up to 3.8 slowly
30mhz at a time running super pi and 3dmark benchmark for every step to monitor temps and voltages everything was fine even loaded up bf2 after swaping in my 2X 1gig sticks.
then was winding down for the night and loaded up nero to burn a cd and it blue screened out of the blue and now its not restarting ... no post:slapass:
the temps were high 40s and low 50s had cool air ducted to the cpu
volts 1.55 to 1.575
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=69959
reset bios, reseated all conections, removed whole setup and placed it on workbench, reseated cpu and heatsink i never used the intel thermal paste i used artic silver stuff
any suggestions on a solution post or pm
THANKS, J

was that a northwood or a prescott? Either way it shouldnt have taken 1.55 volts to carry a 3GHz P4 to 3.8, my prescott almost does that at stock volts.

stock volts are 1.55

CPU-Z 1.31 @ ClockGen?
Check with other mems.

both sets of mems are good both go alt father than this

90% of chance your board died...the p4 are hard to kill with "reasonable" volt

if stock is 1.55 then that's norty, not likely to died, prob mobo. If it is preshott, than 1.55 is a lot.

What bigfoot is referring to, is some reported instances where the simultaneous use of CPU-Z and clockgen might corrupt the SPD of your memory sticks...

Have you tried different sets of sticks after your BS-incident?

tried switching memory sticks?

swapped memory and purchase new stick still no post so its powersupply/mobo/cpu problem

well, if you used dutch tape to fasten the fan I'm not surprised. If that's what you ment by "cold air dutched to the cpu."

wth is dutch tape? special tape from holland? :p:

as for your northy, how high are you on the volts at 3.6? you may need to take them up to 1.65 or so to get where you want

stock volts are 1.55

IIRC 1.55 is not stock volts on a norty. Stock volts on a norty is 1.472. At least on mine it is.

1.472 would be what your system droops to, not the stock vcore :p:

check the box. it will be either 1.525 or, in the case of some northwoods 1.55v...max vcore intel supports for the northwood core is 1.55v

The 3.0NWc I had, was 1.55Vcore default, and the MoBo (Gigabyte GA-8KNXP) I had then, could only supply 1.6Vcore without mods, so i changed over to MAX3, and what a difference.

gonna get 4ghz stable on water waiting on new case to come with 120mm opening on it instead of dual 80mm
gonna water the cpu and gpu. NB and ram will have quiet fans on them.

watch out, Northwood's aren't like prescotts. They have hit at roof around 4GHz.
