View Full Version : Poor Crossfire X1900XT performance with Pentium D 955XE

recently setup a new system:
Pentium D 955XE
Asus P5WD2-E
2x 512megs DDR667
Sapphire X1900XT
Sapphire X1900 Crossfire Edition
I installed the system and then finally installed all the drivers.
In the ATI Control Panel, I enable crossfire already.
Then I tested 3DMark 2005 and I only get 9720 3DMarks?
With crossfire disabled I only get 8940 3DMarks.
Are these scores accurate?
PS. I am using the drivers from the driver CD that came with the cards.

well i would imagine some settings are wrong, or the drivers on the cd suck. A single card ought to get 10k+ i think. somethings definatly not quite right.

Hell yes.. most CD drivers are 3-6 months old ;)

But there are no other drivers to use apart for the ones on the CD.

You checked ATi for the latest Drivers?

Yes, they only have CAT 6.1 which doesn't support X1900

Mess around with Catalyst AI
Lowest multiple, highest FSB
bring up pcie to around 115 and test 3D, keep testing for higher pcie till 3D crashes then bring it down a few Mhz. At a certain point networking will drop off first so this will give you good indication of when pcie is about to fail.
Bring up NB voltage to 1.65 for benching, 1.6v for 24x7 seems fine.
You should be good to 370~400fsb area.
PCIE "heavier" and I turn dram thermal throttle off.
I leave peg and hyperpath on auto.
What memory do you have?

Is it safe to set the PCI-E higher than 100mhz? Isn't 100mhz the default clock? The FSB is 266mhz so PCI-E is now set to Auto. Should i change it to 100mhz manually?
I haven't overclocked my Pentium D 955XE yet so I am trying to figure out how come many reviews show X1900 crossfire systems gettig 13K in 3DMark05 while I can't even break 10K?
There has got be some settings or drivers which are not setup properly.
I am using Enermax Liberty 620W power supply. Is it sufficient?
I am using the Syncmax 2x 512megs PC4200 Express
http://www.syncmax.com/page22.asp?result=1&typeID=5&capacityID=7&clockID=40&chipNumID=2
Any more settings I need to adjust in the Asus P5WD2-E bios?

Fugger:
What about these settings in the P5WD2-E bios?
1) Hyper Path 3 (I have set this to enable)
2) DRam Throttling Threshold (I have set it to auto)
3) PEG Buffer Length ( I have set it to short)
4) Link Latency (PEG) ( I have set it to normal)
5) PEG Root Control ( I have set it to enable)
6) PEG Link Mode ( I have set it to Faster)
7) Slot Power (I have set it to heavier)
8) Microcode Updation (I have set it to enable)
9)Max CPUID Value Limit ( I have disabled this)
10) Execute Disable funciton (I have disabled this)
11) CPU Internal Thermal Control ( I have disabled this)
Are these settings okay?

I downloaded the file and extracted it.
Then checked the inf file in the driver folder and it seems that it doesn't support X1900 cards.

Could it be possible that my Enermax Liberty 620 W Power supply is not sufficient for the Crossfire X1900 and Pentium D 955XE setup?
I checked out with ATI Tool that the GPU is at 5.5A while I have seen some screenshots of the GPU at 8.5A and higher.

COuld it be the EPS12V+ connetor?
I only used the 4 pin connector from the power supply to connect to the Asus P5WD2-E. Should I use the 8pin connector EPS12V+?
Will that help?
