Asus A8N5X
Venice 3000+ (stock cooling)
(256mb x 2) OCZ Platinum
El cheapo 450w PSU

At any point past pushing the processor over 10-15MHz the computer locks up at the "Asus A8N5X, Press DEL to Enter BIOS screen"

What could be the problem? It's not my machine btw, just trying to help a friend out with his problem.

I have a Venus 12 and Antec SmartPower 400w on the way for him, because I suspect the PSU might be the problem. But it shouldn't manifest itself because of a 10MHz overclock, especially when we don't even turn up the vcore. :stick:

would be my guess. I hope it's not the mobo cause I was looking at getting one of those.

But we never changed the voltage on the CPU, so that's why I was thinking it couldn't be the PSU, but the new one is going to arrive in two days. So I guess then we'll know for sure.

And I'm almost certain that it's a solid mobo, Asus has never given me any problems, and quite a few others on this forum have the same model... they don't seem to have any gripes with it.

Just search for A8N5X and I'm sure you'll find all you need to know. Try searching for the same term over at www.hardforum.com too, the more you find out the better :D

Why would you say that? Have you seen similar problems from the same motherboard?

gut feeling about described problem....try researching OC link with tha mobo and bioses used.....also most some detailed settings on what you're doing in bios exactly....maybe take a few snapshots of settings

Sounds like a bios issue if anything.
